diploid number is 36, how many chromatids are in the prophase of mitosis?

my guess is 144 because you replicate the 36 chromosomes which makes 72 and then in that there are 2 chromatids each so 144...can any1 tell me if im right or wrong and if so why? thanks in advance

You dont have to double again. If there are 36 chromosomes, during Sphase they replicate to 72, but during prophase each pair of identical chromosomes are still attached to each other as chromatids. There will be 72 chromatids, half of which goes to each daughter cells.

like UCB05 said, it doubles during S Phase thats when they becomes chromatids from chromosomes so making 36 to 72, so in prophase you will have 72 chromatids
