Mizzou vs UAZ vs Massey

Hi everyone, I am a non-traditional applicant (30F) and current Arizona resident. I grew up in the Midwest. Super excited to say that after a lot of hard work, I have two offers and two waitlist spots on my first application attempt. Per everyone’s advice, I only applied to the cheapest schools.

My current admission offers are from Mizzou and University of Arizona. I am waitlisted at Massey in New Zealand (very interested), and Oregon (too expensive for me anyways).

Who knows what vet school will bring, but my current plan is to go into small animal emergency medicine after graduation.

I have ADHD and need all the support I can get with my learning and handling of the curriculum. After doing years of online classes, I think I would do better with traditional in-person lecture format, so I am hesitant about flipped classrooms (U of A and Massey).

I am very outdoorsy and love to hike, camp, etc. so location is pretty important to me and I love living near mountains, but my priority is a learning environment where I am most likely to thrive or at the very least survive. Also cost is a huge priority, but I think my options are all rather comparable.

Help me decide on schools! Thank you so much!

i would probably lean towards mizzou over arizona unless arizona would be significantly cheaper for you. vet school is a lot and i can’t imagine doing it in 3 years instead of 4! i’ve also heard nothing but good things about 2+2/early clinical start programs like mizzou

My best advise for you is to go where it will be cheapest. Compare tuition and what you think your living expenses will be for both schools and go with the cheaper one. This is super important especially with the new bill coming into effect this summer.

Cost is important, and also...

UAZ, while not the most close effective, has the following going for it:

-Diverse age range in the student body (20s-50s in my class)
-Simple and supportive process to seek accomodations for testing
-Mountains and super outdoor-friendly, just not in the middle of summer

I'm glad that you like your program, but none of those should factor into a decision about where to go into hundreds of thousands of debt.

choose Mizzou bc it is cheaper, better support , good preparation, and outdoor activities to do

This alone would make me suggest Mizzou. I struggle enough as is with a traditional timeline; I cannot imagine managing an accelerated program. To me, while being waitlisted at Massey is certainly an achievement and something to consider, it’s not an acceptance and is not an option right now. Between your stated goals, costs, and your needs, Mizzou would be my pick.
