You need:
1. Good Luck
2. Good Karma

or

A multimillion dollar Mayo donation

Please note that a generous mix of good grades, good MCAT, and unique experiences is a given.

I don't know if Mayo still does this, but when I was applying (4 years ago...), they used a formula as a preliminary screen:

MCAT + (GPA x 10) had to be > than 67 or so in order to have someone even look at your application.

Rock that MCAT.

Good luck,
doepug

damn........i missed it by a point...........i got my rejection letter hella fast from those fools haha.

anti-mayo!!

They don't use a specific screening formula as they look at more then just grades and MCAT. Being from Florida will give you a bit of an edge as they like to have some students from Florida and Arizona each year but being from Minnesota would be much better. You will still need above average GPA and MCAT to get an interview (3.5 GPA is good but be sure to do very well on the MCAT). They tend to look favorably on people that have had some sort of long-term service in their past with an extra-plus towards international experience. During the on-site interview, be sure to mention how much you would like to live in Rochester and are looking forward to the winters.

And try not to slam the door on your now 4 foot long nose.

There are some good things you can say about Rochester (nice and clean, quiet, low crime, really great for raising a family, affordable houses...kinda the antithesis of where I am LOL).

I wouldn't even touch the winters though (and this is coming from a former Montrealer). 😛 At they they did make those underground connections!

Anyway, I agree the best thing you can do now for your chances is to rock the MCAT. Good luck!
