I graduated from undergrad in May 2008, but I didn't get the chance to do any of the free mock interviews that my school had. Are there any free or even inexpensive (read: CHEAP) places that will do a mock interview with non-trad applicants or people who are not current students? Thanks!

Check back with your undergrad institution if you're still close by. Just being an alumni allowed me to use the services of the premed office at my school - including a helpful mock interview. I think the services of the career center are also open to alumni. I'm sure it depends on the school though.

My university does offer its career services to alumni, but I'm about 2 hours away. Do you think a mock interview would be worth the drive? I'm an average interviewer, but I tend to mix up my words and say "like" a lot just because I get nervous. I'm even getting nervous typing this!!

Obviously I can't speak for your school, but the one that I did would have been worth the 2 hour drive. The premed adviser did it - she had me send her my AMCAS application beforehand and she read through it and wrote down questions before I got there. She gave me a good mix of general, ethical, and personal (derived from my application) questions. She threw a couple at me that I had not thought of before. She gave me some tips at the end and I asked her how I could improve a couple of my answers. It really helped me see which answers I felt like I was prepared for and which ones still needed some work.

It was overall a good experience and helped me out on the real interview day for a couple of reasons. 1. I had to prepare for an interview before the real interview, so I felt better prepared. 2. I felt like I had a better idea of what the real interviews would be like. 3. It gave me a boost of confidence on interview day because I felt better prepared. Even though my real interviews were tough, I think that the mock one definitely helped me.

Good luck!

I live across the country from my undergrad institution so a visit was not practical. In my case I found it helpful to do a sample interview via the phone.

I think an in-person mock interview would have been better (so facial expressions, body language could have been commented on). But the phone interview was helpful and gave me good feedback on what else I could include in my answers and what material was less useful.

Contact your local medical school. I know that most programs run mock interview days for prospective medical students.
