completely useless

I'd disagree a little. If you're interested in medical research, it is a good background to have, and it can make a few things easier in first year. But only study it in college if you like it, otherwise vast misery awaits.

Taking right now. Really hard. Have to take to finish BS in Biochem and MB degree.

Might lose my 4.0 for the semester over this ****.

I think Molecular Biology is a great course to take. There will be a molecular biology segment within your med school biochemistry course, so you will see some of this again (although not as detailed). As the previous poster said, molecular biology is very important in research. A lot of research boils down to these concepts like the presence of mRNA, topoisomerase activity, etc. Having this under your belt will leave you better equipped to understand concepts in a research setting.

Very confused right now...

An intro molecular biology class is one of your hardest classes out of a biochem degree?!?

Completely useless advice.

Yes, it is useful, particularly if you have to take it as a core major course. It won't dull the pain of first year, but having seen a lot of the topics in molec bio one time through will absolutely help, if for your confidence if nothing else.

Not the intro course. Mixed upper level Undergrad and Grad course.

Also, currently have A-.

Condescending "I'm better than you" guy always has to pop in for threads like these 🙄

C'mon bro, don't be that guy.

FWIW, molecular bio is one of the harder biology classes I've taken, which is why biochem and genetics are pre-reqs.

Hmm. I didn't think it was that hard, but the majority of the rest of the class did. It really depends on what your strengths are and the kinds of information you're interested in. What is hard to some will be easy to others and vice versa.

The reason for my comment was that a biochemistry major often includes courses such as physical chemistry which blow even most upper-level molecular biology classes out of the water. I wasn't comparing molecular biology to med school prereqs. Med school prereqs are uniformly easy compared to some of the real upper level science courses required for a biochemistry major, which were what I had in mind as a comparison.

To be fair, intro chem wasn't my easiest course and it was a pre-req.

I thought P-Chem was okay. I got an A.

However, the jerk I have for M. Bio. pulls random crap out of his a$s on his exams that we have never seen in class. Consequently, there are only two A's in the course which includes me at an A- and one other person at an A.
