I have heard that residents who have their unrestricted medical license, but have not completed their residency will have difficulty moonlighting after January 1st due to the fact that medicare will not reimburse hospitals for work done. As a resident who is planning on moonlighting soon, I would like to know if there is valididty to this and if there are ways around it. Thanks in advance.

News to me.

How do they differentiate between a moonlighting resident and a doc who only partially completed a residency 20 years ago and is now working in an ER somewhere?

I would be very surprised if this is true. Shocked even.

interesting.
very interesting

Licensed is licensed. As long as you have a license and your National Provider Identifier number, then you're all set.

A lot of programs have in house moonlighting where you do the same exact thing you did as a resident IE take an extra call or shift for cash something that the program director could have forced you to do for free. Would that practice still be possible for non licensed residents?
