So I was recently contacted by a physician staffing group that was looking for either IM or anesthesia docs to basically babysit on the weekends? You would basically be in charge of any codes and be involved in packaging people up to head to the ICU. I am curious if anyone would do this? As an anesthesiologist I am more than comfortable in codes and with procedures, just don't know if I want this type of hassle. Pay is supposed to be good though.

So the question is, would you do it?

Make sure you look into malpractice coverage. Just because your program 'supports' moonlighting, they may not cover you in the event that something bad happens..

Sounds like a good gig though. Good luck.

Your program ain't going to cover you with malpractice. The hospital should provide this as part of your compensation if you are a temp worker there, but yes you definitely need to nail that one down before you start. If you have to pay it, that extra income is going to dwindle down pretty quickly.

Also keep a good list of contact info for the hospital in your files. In the future, when you apply for privileges elsewhere, you are going to have to list where you did your moonlighting.
