Just remember that if you are moonlighting at a civilian facility you are no longer considered to be working as an agent of the federal govt, so your immunity for lawsuits disappears. You need malpractice coverage and a medical license from the state you are moonlighting in.
 
Moonlighting is not allowed for trainees. Attendings have to option to moonlight if the command is ok with it.

As far as malpractice....read the posts on "congress has raised the incentive pay cielings"

As AD MD, you are not necessarily protected as much as you think...only the monetary aspects.
