No idea yet

Whats up guys. I'm actually a M2, just finished my first year at Morehouse. You guys have made an excellent choice in coming to Morehouse School of Medicine and the second years are actively getting ready for your arrival. If you don't know, we have a sib program where you will be paired with a second year who will give/loan you resources for the next year such as books, notes, old exams etc. Everyone at Morehouse is there to encourage your success.

By the way, If you are interested in housing, I have one room available in my townhouse. The townhouse itself is huge (compared to an apartment) and I am offering a really good deal. I'd probably have to take a male housemate, but if you are female, one of my friends lives close by and I can give you her info, she also has a room available. Just PM me if you are interested.

Where in the city is it?

It is ten minutes from MSM, in Mableton, GA just outside the Atlanta City Limits. Keep in mind that the Atlanta City Limits is quite small. Its in a really nice neighborhood where it is quiet and secure. PM me if you have anymore questions. A number of other MSM students live there too.

Hello! I just took the quickest trip to Atlanta ever. I was in the city for less than 24 hours (which is less than the time i spent traveling 🙁 )

I found an apartment though. I think. Does anyone from Atlanta know anything about Lakes at Vinings? It's on Paces Ferry Road. I'm filling out an application now.

Also, when are you guys planning on moving? If I move into Lakes at Vinings, then my lease starts on June 21st, but I won't be able to be there until about a week later.

ok, i am trying to be cautiously excited but when i came home tonight after work, there was a message from from dr. roaf himself. ive been on the waitlist since december. i thought morehouse sent their acceptances through snail mail. do you know if dr. roaf makes phone calls to offer seats? i am crossing my fingers and am trying not to get too excited so i wont be crushed tomorrow....

Congrats. My package said June 1st we'd be getting the text book list etc.

Are you living in town? Finding an affordable place in ATLANTA is almost as fun as a colonoscopy after having mexican food.

i'm in as well!
called back dr. roaf this morning.
yeah!!!

I really am not sure at all. I figured I have to see what's in the packet and decide the best options. You have any advice?

Start looking now - its hell to find a place near the school - in an area that you feel comfy in.

Hello!

I got the initial packet, but no financial aid information. I think the mail from the financial aid office is seperate from admissions / student affairs mailings. Has anyone else heard about finaid?

About the White Coat ceremony. I saw on a webpage somewhere that it happens (or at least used to happen) during the founder's day convocation. Last year that was on September 16th.

Man, I hope my packet comes soon. I need to know when to move down. When are most people getting there?

Orientation starts July 6th. I am planning on moving in late June, latest July 1st.

How long does it take them to process finaid packages? It's been months...

hi all,

hoping someone could help me out here.
as you all may know by now, if you are a georgia resident, you are required to complete and have a JUDGE sign the certification of residency form. if any of you are living in fulton county, did you have to go to the courthouse on pryor street? are there any closer ones?

any advice would be greatly appreciated!
thx!!!

Hi guys I'm not attending MSM BUT...I did attend Spelman, so I wanted to give love to my fellow AUC school. Btw are there any Spelman, Morehouse, or Clark alum attending MSM?

i find sdn a little impersonal. anyone else up for a google group?

http://groups.google.com/group/MSM2010

right now its public so anyone can click on the link and join. but in a few days i can make it restricted so people will feel more comfortable posting names and such. if you are having trouble joining, PM me your email address and ill invite you.

Hi everybody!
I'll be in your class at Morehouse too!! I've been looking for places to live and finally decided on a place last night. My advice is to try ajchomefinder.com and also rent.com. Look at Fulton County inside I-285. I know where a couple of places are since I went to college in ATL, so if you have questions, I can try to help. Oh, and the other thing I did was use Mapquest to figure out the distance between places and Morehouse. I only looked at stuff within 10 miles of the school....because if you've ever been to ATL, you know traffic is terrible....

About Financial Aid, I talked to them this morning, and supposedly we should have our packets in the next week or so...

Good luck and I can't wait to meet all of you!

Is there anyone who hasn't found housing yet?

Can anyone tell me their MCAT and gpa stats for entry into Morehouse medical school?

Also whether or not you are in-state or out-state?

I plan to apply in 2007. Thanks.

Everyone posting there stats would just be anecdotal and that is not what you need. The avg. at Morehouse for these stats I would say is close to the national avg at around the high 20's low 30's on the MCAT, and I'm not too sure about the GPA, but definitely above a 3.0. Thats not saying that you'll be automatically turned down if you get lower than this though. There are so many other factors that go into getting acceptances to med school though, so be sure to highlight these. I'm personally out of state, but I think that MSM somehow leans towards those who are in-state. In applying, The important thing is to put yourself forward in a good light, and understand the specific reasons why you want to go to this or any other school. These are what you should talk about on your application and your interview if invited.

Did you guys recieve the final mailing with schedules and stuff? Can't believe we start in just a few weeks.

Two more weeks of freedom...

paging dr. C.R. , yes i mean you

anyone else get a call from Dr. Roaf today? He was asking me if I was planning on sending in the paperwork...sounded like he thought I might have changed my mind about Morehouse...

do most people have their final financial aid package yet? i got a tentative one via email the other day, and when i called the fiscal affairs office they said it won't be final until september. that seems a little strange to me...

Hi everyone! Congratulations to those who have been accepted! I'm sure you are all very excited. I have a question for those of you who have been accepted: What is the best time to apply?

I know everyone will say early, but I sat for the April MCAT. My score was okay but I know I'm capable of better. I plan on sitting for the August MCAT (I'm supposed to be studying right now). But I'm wondering what will they do with your app if you send it in with a mediocre score? I have already changed my AMCAS app to show that I am taking the exam again. Do they have a pile of "maybe" apps, or are you just tossed out without them waiting to see the new, more competitive score?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated! :luck:

The financial aid office told our class last year that if you have grants/scholarships in your tentative award letter those should not decrease. They gave me a little more money than expected. It should most likely work out the same way this year.

If your score is okay, as in good enough, go ahead and apply as early as possible. I was in your position two years ago, and I decided to wait until after my August score came back to apply. It all worked out well, but I did have a later interview season, and some of my alternate positions could have been acceptances had I applied earlier. Another thing, to keep in mind is that as premeds restudy for the MCAT often times their scores might not change substantially as MCAT retakers tend to concentrate on the area(s) that they are weakest in and not dedicate the same intensity to their stronger areas. Therefore, scores in one section may go up but scores in another section may go down leading to a second score very close to the first. So be careful about this tendancy, and hit every section adequately, but not necessarily equally, to maintain/improve your high sections and improve on weaker sections.

Thanks for the great advice. I plan on submitting my app as soon as I tweak my personal statement. And I will definitely give adequate focus to all of the sections. I am mainly doing more practice questions/ passages/ tests than before. I'm positive this approach will yield great results. I really appreciate the help! God bless!
