Most Hated Class?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
there were several classes I didn't like but didn't really mind cause I could sleep through them.

Unfortunately I couldn't sleep through microbio, and it sucked.

also I'm taking it again this year, and even though medical micro is a lot more interesting than undergrad micro it's by far my least-favorite class.

Orgo II and Immunology

Don't take immuno, not much topic is covered in the MCAT to justify an entire semesters work.

What!?!? I heard immuno was awesome 😕 Everyone I've talked to said it was a really interesting class?

At my school, I heard not to take it but I think that's because of the professor, maybe you have better professors for immuno.

Bio 2 taught by a botanist. 80% plants. Mandatory attendance. <10% of class got an A. (I did, but I had to memorize my ass off). Especially difficult since I was taking it at the same time as orgo and physics.

Quantitative Analysis hands down. The lecture is a breeze, but the lab is a God awful headache every freaking time.

Bio 2 was pretty bad. I don't care about plants, frankly.

I'm currently taking a class titled "history of anthropological thought." Basically, all you do in the class is read essays written by 19th century anthropologists and "discuss" them as a class. Horrible.

I really didn't like microbiology. This probably had to do with my prepping for the MCAT the summer I took the class, and my priorities were elsewhere.

Any class even tangentally related to archaeology.

LOVED pchem, unlike many of you on here. i'm a weirdo.

but my analytical chem lab actually made me want to die every week. god, i hated those professors. :shudder:

i also super hated the few psychology classes i took. so boring, dumb, and watered down. sorry to all you psych majors. maybe your schools have better psych departments.

Hmm... I actually loved electromagnetism. It was one of my favorite classes!

On the other hand, I can sympathize with many others here who have found plant biology utterly dreadful.

Intro to Psychology - worst class ever. So subjective, and the tests were surprisingly difficult. I actually got a B in it, and it's been my only B in college. So lame.

Genetics - great subject ruined by a terrible professor.

Biomedical Ethics - one of those professors that believes in having the students teach each other. Really wishy-washy class with unclear assignments and no feedback. Come on...I'm paying you to teach me. Didn't learn a thing...

The worst Microbiology Class- determinative bacteriology

The worst chemistry class - Methods of Instrumental Analysis

Well we obviously don't go to the same school...

and 'awesome' 'everyone...interesting' are purely subjective terms in your context

Nuclear Reactor principles. It didn't help that the guy teaching it was one of those ultra-smart types that couldn't effectively convey a concept even if he was reading it out of the text. A close second, related to premed, would be accelerated Ochem, 1 full years worth, over the summer. At least the teacher for that class was engaging.

I first read that as "Nuclear Raptor principles" and for a moment thought that must be the most awesome class ever.

So far the class I've hated the most was an upper-division psych course called Culture and Mental Illness. Basically the entire course was centered around bashing Western medicine and portraying doctors as malicious oppressors of the human spirit. If you didn't feel like regurgitating that opinion in the twice-weekly essays then you got graded down.

general biology by far
It's not that the class wasn't interesting or anything, but at my school this is a major weeder, even more so than o chem. The general attitude just sucked any hint of interest in pure biology right out of me.

biostatistics. by far. i actually preferred calc1,2/organic, etc over it

My precalc class was so terrible. Not because it was hard, but because the professor was a complete idiot. I'm pretty sure I saw him counting on his fingers on multiple occasions, and he forgot how to do like half of the things that he was supposed to teach so we just skipped over them.

Pchem, and it's lab with 30 page lab reports

Oh, man. I took accelerated pchem freshman year and those labs were nightmares. I would spend pull all nighters writing on and on, and then the TA comes back and gives me a B?

👍 psych was so boring!

Psych may be boring, but the material covered never fails to interest me.

Mechanics

Half the problems were a huge headache, and the other half you couldn't even solve on your own so you were constantly bugging the professor for hints on how to do them. I used up a full 150 sheets of college ruled paper with lecture notes; had to use printer paper for the homework because the equations were so long and messy. Professor always graded the hardest problems..always. I'd rather eat and poop razor blades than suffer through that again.

human anatomy and physiology. most boring class I've ever taken. No critical thought and few "clinical" correlations.
I'll read pathology textbooks for fun in my studying breaks, but mandatory attendance for a 2hr class period to listen to the professor list off terms? No thank you.

intro to sociology, child and adolescent developmont, gerontology, intro to psych, abnormal psych

All were super easy classes but so boring.

Weather & Climate, it just really sucked and attendance was required

Blues & Folk Music: Worst Prof I've ever had to encounter

Without a doubt, pchem. I did more work in that class than all others combined that semester.

Agreed 100%... it was cool sometimes, and I did well in it, but oh my, just a killer amount of work every week.

Instrumental Analysis. Upper-division chemistry class about how IR, Mass Spec, GC, etc. work. Very dry subject taught by the driest of dry professors. It was like the Sahara in there.

The mother of all chemistry classes (at least at my school). This would be the only class that I would say would top my worst class ever...INORGANIC CHEMISTRY. Some of you must have read some posts of me ranting last semester. It was pretty ugly. I'm going to stop here because just thinking about that class gives me the shivers. *shiver*

Either the required health and fitness course or Heat Transfer.

First quarter of physics...had a horrible teacher who didn't know how to teach + all this tests were multiple choice. Some considered this awesome BUT he would give 20 complicated problems...you have 50 minutes and no partial credit. I have a friend who got an A in this class...and she guess on every single test for at least half of it.

Physics 2 was MUCH BETTER for me as a result of an AMAZING teacher.

Calc I was also HORRIBLE. Teacher SUCKED. Calc II was amazing b/c teacher rocked.

I don't shy away from hard classes...I'm taking upper level Genetics courses (which I'm really enjoying even though they occasionally kick my butt). I'm ok as long as I have a good teacher. Bad Teacher in a difficult subject = HORRIBLE class.

God I hate Physics II.. electromagnetism sucks.

I know there's some pretty crappy ones; I've been lucky to avoid most of them.. what's yours?

I'm with you. Years ago my love for physics compelled me to be an engineering major. I retook Physics I & II because I had a long hiatus in my undergrad education, and I found E&M to be aggravating and largely useless in the grand scheme of things.

diff eq.

end of discussion. PDE's are the spawn of satan

I took an art history class at a local pseudo community-college. It was so insufferably boring. Lectures were 3 hours, once a week. The teacher was the classic burnt out hippy - long hair, soft spoken, looked perpetually high, etc. I mean he was a nice guy and an amazing artist, but holy **** did that class suck.

The entire semester was spent watching videos on different artists: Picasso, Monet, Caravaggio, Bellini, and uhh....that's all I can remember because I slept through 90% of them. That was seriously all we did. Videos. What happens if the video ends 2 hours into the 3 hour class? Pop in another one.

His final was basically "write in anything you can remember about ALL of the videos you saw." Thankfully he (literally) gave us all of the answers.

Math 1016...Calculus. Ugh. Our school is stupid and turned calculus to an online course that is do-at-your-own-pace. So not only is it difficult material(to those of us who hate math), but there's no teacher and we have to rely on slides to teach us everything.

On top of that, you had to go to some stupid building that you have to take the bus to to take your quizzes and tests. To date, it's the only C+(or lower) on my transcript. 😡

Gen Biology 1-2
Genetics

Can't determine which one i hate most.
I hated the broad generality in which Gen Biology went over, especially the stuff we never will need to know.

I hated population genetics, it was just very useless i thought. It was very unappealing and it was taught by a lousy teacher in my school, which further bolstered my hatred.

Anyone taken accounting? For me, accounting was incredibly boring and with mandatory attendance, I declared the class my official nap time.

I was an accounting major in undergrad and work as an IT Auditor so I find accounting sexy...but not fulfilling (thus the switch back to school as a pre-med).

Hardest class: Networks/Distributed Systems...programming can be frustratingly angry... programming networks is about as close as I ever got to getting nun punching angry.

Most work: Introductory Accounting Lab...a one credit course where I did 4-6 hours of debit and credit transactions a week...not hard but the most work per credit hour that I have had to do yet including science classes.
