Most Important Biology Advanced Classes

Hi

In your opinion which advanced biology classes are defintely most important for the MCAT. Can you rank these classes in order of most to least.

1. evolutionary
2. cell biology
3. genetics
4. human physiology
5. microbiology

and more if you know any better classes........

It is important to also consider if you have a large number of AP credits that you need to show upper divison science credits...

I would recommend: 1)Human Genetics, or high level genetics elective 2)Microbiology 3)Immunology 4)Biochemistry 5)Neurobiology (or other upper level Physiology elective)

and finally 6)SOCIAL SCIENCE or ENGLISH LITERATURE credits beyond those required...why? it gives you something to talk about in the interview and makes a good chance to get a non-science letter of rec. Good luck.😀

I agree with Lab-rat.. neuro classes rock! Neuroscience incorporates just about every science subject out there which makes the class invaluable to your other classes an the MCATs. Except be wary of anything that has the words physics or development associated with them.. scary scary stuff.

I would also recommend behavioral classes as well as virology and entoxicology if your school offers them in addition to your list. Also maybe anatomy in addition to physiology as well.

There are 2 things that are important : class content and the professor. It doesn't do you any good taking a class in which the lecturer is awful. Since you attend U of H, this is my advice

1) Physiology: take it with costa colbert
2) Cell Biology : Take it with Delcour
3) Micro: only with jurkshuck
4) genetics: hated this class but its mandatory for your degree
5) Evo : Wouldn't recommend this one. Cole will put you to sleep and the average is around 50. Hard class.
