Okay here's a spin off from the hardest / coolest thread. Currently I am in fourth year vet (out of five, in Australia) and we are doing our practical work with large animals this semester.

Last week we had an equine prac which a few of us didn't remember about or prepare for. We last studied equine anatomy in second year, and last friday we were presented with a limb to dissect. All was going well as we removed the skin etc, but then to our horror we started to be grilled with questions by various instructors.

It was pretty mortifying but also hilarious at the same time. The instructor would point to some random bit of tendon and ask us what it was. A deathly silence, punctuated sometimes by muffled giggling would descend on our table, and crickets would begin to chirp. Eventually, after an inordinately awkward waiting period, someone would take an uninformed stab at it ("is it the spleen?" "oh, not part of the limb?" "oh.....") before trailing off into silence, then eventually the answer would be given up by the instructor, and then a new question would be asked.

What other moments of shame does everyone have?

Hopefully we will all remember to revise for our next prac!!!!!!!!!!!

In physiology last year we were talking about respiration and how people living in higher altitudes have more red blood cells. One of my classmates (from New Orleans) asked the professor what would happen if you lived below sea level. His response: "You'd drown".

Actually that reminds me of silly things classmates have asked. We were once shown a picture of a cow with her fourteen ET calves in front of her and one of my colleagues asked if it wasn't cruel for one cow to be made to have all those calves! 😆

We had a white coat ceremony last week here at Tennessee. A very nice man started talking to me, and I eventually asked if he were one of the parents....turns out he was dean of the whole college! Whoops! I guess I had just never seen a picture of him!

I sure hope that was before his speech! 😉

Im n ot in vet school yet but that reminds me of a funny undergrad story from last year. We had a lab on swine in reproduction class and the TA mentioned that one reason for AI in pigs is to reduce the transmission of STDs. The student next to me gets this horrified look on her face and asks "So you mean I can get an STD by eating pork!!??"
