This may be an asinine question, but what does it mean to be on the waiting list? Do students eventually get accepted? I applied to NYU's program and I was wondering how many students applied this year for the Fall 2010? Also, if I am still taking prerequisites, do they accept me or wait until they receive my final grades?

I don't mind moving to any state, so if any of you know of a small school that offers the MOT program please let me know.

One more question, do any of you know some good tips in getting accepted to this now "competitive" program??

Hi! I am not sure about NYU specifically but usually if you get on a waiting list they usually inform you of a date that you hear by. I would definitely call the school and ask when you would hear a final decision. I think all schools are different for competitve programs. I got rejected from a school that was rank in the 80's but got into the top school in the country for OT. I know a lot of schools weigh heavily on GPA/varied and a lot of experiance. I think one of the best things is to talk to the students at the school and see what their background was when they applied or the admission counselor. Sorry I don't really know about NYU, but just general info hope it helps!

Thanks! Wow that is crazy, you got in the top one and not in the lower one! It seems to be kind of random. My GPA is my weakness. But for the prerequisites it is decent. I am going to keep looking at schools, maybe smaller and more affordable ones. It would be wonderful to get accepted to NYU, however. Which ones did you apply to if you don't mind me asking?

LCR, the same happened to me. I didn't even get an interview to a school ranked 16th or 17th but got accepted into the top school (along with another program) - but I chose to go to Wash U which I saw earlier that you picked that as well.

And CStudent86, I'm not sure about NYU's program, but the school that was on the top of my list at the beginning didn't even give me an interview and I later found out they only took the top 70 or so by GPAs. Needless to say, I didn't have all my prereqs completed as well at the time. However, I never truly found out why I didn't get my interview. I applied for 3 different schools in 3 different states and the 2 I did get accepted into...were based on a point system, i.e. they look at work experience, records, volunteer/community - the whole she-bang. This info I actually got from the admissions people.

I would definitely called as mentioned above, and ask them what it means for you or even talk to the students. And, apply to other schools to increase your chances. It just means they took the people that they would like to take for that year. So you are accepted its just that the seats are full. If someone gives up their seat in the class they will call you be in the program. Dont lose hope, people give up there seats at the last minute. So they can call you literary a week before school starts. good luck
