I'm doing the 8 week DAT study program posted here (THANK YOU SO MUCH)

But, I was wondering how do you guys keep yourself motivated to study everyday, especially with classes and research and life going on?

Research? That's for chumps. We're cutters and extractors, not some damned cave-lab monkeys! 😉

I don't know about others, as I didn't start studying til after all my classes were finished, but three things have motivated me well: scheduling the test, temporarily moving to Iowa (nothing to do, and freezing, very motivating to finish studying so I can leave as soon as possible), and just reminding myself of how liberating getting it done will be for my near-future.

Just imagine having the DAT done: travel, volunteering, work, relationships, family, exercise, knowing better your chances of getting in and where, classes, and uhh, even research if that's your thing 😉 it'll all be so much more open to you, not saturated with that thick viscose layer of DAT anxiety!

I motivated myself my reading fellow SNDers "DAT DONEs" seeing high scores scared the crap out of me and would study harder. If I started getting off track I would look at dental school statistics and see how absolutely difficult it is to get in. I warn you this method with give you many anxiety attacks, but it sure kept me on task! Best of luck!

You have to motivate yourself. You are competiting with many students from the U.S. and around the World. Some who have taken the DAT and they already know logistics of the test. You are also competing with people who are fighting from the bottom of the social latter--so to speak, and if you don't want it that bad, they will. For many people, this is their only chance to take the DAT due to lack of funds. Question is, are you hungry for it? Henceforth, " go farther!, go further!, go harder!; is that not why we came? If not, then why bother?" Mr. Carter

P.S. I use to be a house keeper wiping toilets for chump change and if I have to go up against someone who questions about motivation then he or she is no competition.

Good Luck!!

If you dont get =>19 then you are gonna have to retake which means more $ + time spent studying for retake no thanks. take practice exams and if you score lower then your motivation will come automatically. Especially take achiever exams they are hard as hell but when you score low in them it will motivate you to study harder.

Thanks guys!! 🙂

I need to schedule my exam pretty soon. I DO NOT want to retake this exam.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! death.

Hey! Im actually doing the same study guide! so i feel your pain!!! :meanie: anyways what Ive been doing is doing 2 days at a time adding up to about 10hrs a day of studying so talk about motivation needed! haha anyways what I do is remember to take breaks. If you get through the first part.. The reading and math your golden, especially if you use CHADS videos, those are really easy to grasp and I view them as im watching a TV series or something. Which gives my mind a break!! Im about 5 days in and still going strong so hang in there big guy were all either doing it with you or about to dive in the ****!! lol Oh also whenever I complete a part I get up walk around and look at a couple posts here on SDN before I continue. Hope that helps!!

Take it step by step. Start out with 2 hours a day, then 4, then 6, and so on. Change the environment a bit. Put some music on or eat some snacks....try to make it fun somehow. The hardest part is the beginning. Once you get yourself moving you'll find it kinda fun 🙄
