I've got a question about motivation. I have a very specific idea of what I want to do in pharmacy. Namely, I'd like to work in a community pharmacy with a large (maybe even exclusive) HIV/AIDS population. AIDS Healthcare Foundation comes to mind (they have their own pharmacies). My question is: will such a specific goal be a turnoff to AdComs? Should I broaden my scope beyond just HIV/AIDS? Or will AdComs appreciate such a specific, post-pharmD goal?

Thanks! 😀

Knowing what you want to do with your life is never a bad thing. It shows you have taken the time to reason through your future. I would add, if only at the end of your explanation (whether in an interview or an essay), that you are willing to learn / practice any and all facets of pharmacy. Its one thing to have a goal - its another thing to shun the rest of the pharmacy field. Make sure you include your willingness to learn everything...

i second that.
at one of my interviews, when they asked me where i see myself working after graduation, i pretty much said that i'd like ultimately like to be a professor towards the end of my career when i have gained a lot of experience, but till then since i love the field so much, i can imagine myself in any area of pharmacy, although some more than others, (i'd love to be in hospital and later on in teaching, but can imagine myself doing well in retail too).
yes, i babbled at my interview 😳
but show them you have focus, but aren't limiting yourself to just that specific area, and that you love the field as a whole and want to be a part of it.

Maybe add in something like..

"...At some point in my career I would like to. . . " etc.
