Hello!

I was just looking through some of the non-academic requirements for AVC and came across the skills section (DVM Non-Academic Requirements | Programs and Courses | UPEI) . One part of it states:
"Motor Skills: Students must demonstrate sufficient motor function to safely perform a physical examination on patients of all common domestic species including palpation, auscultation, and percussion. Examinations must be done independently and in a timely fashion. Students must be able to use common diagnostic aids or instruments including a stethoscope, otoscope, and ophthalmoscope."
I'm wondering how they test this. The part about examinations having to be done independently was what caught my attention; do they ask you to do these sort of examinations during the admissions process?

Thanks!

I don't think it means during admissions process...I would think that's something they test you on in school. Based on reading they don't expect you to do that during admissions. They want to see something that maybe demonstrates your motor skills as they will be necessary in the curriculum, becoming a DVM. Maybe @DrAlex2022 can answer this better since AVC?

Hello, 2nd year at AVC here! No, this is not something that is tested during admissions. Throughout your time at AVC you'll have a class called Clinical Skills (and first year you learn to properly restrain large and small animals, how to properly draw blood, etc.. with each year building on the previous). There is only one exam for the class and it is a small and large animal practical exam where you go to different stations and a clinician/resident/etc. asks you to demonstrate a skill, as well as more traditional exam question stations too.

Sorry for the late response! Been super busy getting my head on straight here! Good info from @DaDappette. It's definitely not something they test you for during your interview. Just something they want you to be aware of for the program.

Definitely no testing on this.
It does help to know how to use a classic Scanning microscope when you start your first semester. This is the only instrument that they expect you to be familiar with.
