Hey everyone, I am looking for some insight as to what you would consider essential for on campus living and med school. I commuted from home for undergrad, so this is all new to me. Just looking for some helpful info. I appreciate the feedback!

I'd say a helluva comfy bed would be nice. You may not get that much time to sleep so when you do - max it! Get a Seally. Anything smaller than a queen is crap. Get some high thread count sheets. They're smooth.

Seriously, when I first got out on my own some years ago (I'm 28), I bought a whole bedroom suit and big washer and dryer to really maximize my quality of life.

I later picked up a nice Ashley living room suit during a Labor Day sale.

Seeing that you're living campus is the reason I recommended quality bedding, lol. That crap they usually provide on campus isn't fit for the homeless.

Haha I completely agree. The wifey and I just went out and got a California King size pillow top talalay latex blah blah whatever mattresses and it is being delivered on friday. We're going to get the sheets and a nice comforter for it after that. It's going to be amazing! And we're going to get a nice new washer and dryer this week too, along with a sweet vacuum! 😀 When I was selling a guy shoes a while back he told me to make sure I spend the most money on the things I spend the most time on in life, my bed and my feet! I now live by that saying.

I concur on the bed thing, but disagree with the assertion that you may not get much sleep during med school. The first 2 years are not that bad, and if you don't get 8+ hours (if you choose), you're doing it wrong 😉

Wow, I didn't put that much thought into the bed. Valid points! thanks for the feedback thus far

I agree on the nice bed.

Other essentials. Cheap book storage... those syllabuses start piling up. I got some nice stackable bookcases from Target a few years back and they've been through 4 apartments with me.

Some cookware and dishes wouldn't be a bad idea. A good foreman grill will cover a lot of easy meals.

Spend a little extra on your coffee pot if you drink coffee, you'll get a lot of use out of it.

Other stuff... it's pretty sweet have nice furniture if you can steal some from your family.

TV, you won't be watching a whole ton of it... but sometimes it's nice to maximize the enjoyment of what you're watching or the games you're playing so HD is up to you.
