During med school did you stay home or move out?

Or those of you that already moved out did you move back home to save money or whatever?

Those of you that moved out or lived on your own, how did you manage during school since you cannot work?

Several other threads on this topic, search for them and you'll find some great feedback.

Definitely move out though. The majority of us will manage financially through student loans. Some people are fortunate to have some financial support from their families.

It's a very personal question that depends on what your relationship with your parents is like. It's tough to predict what the relationship will be like during times of stress. Go with your gut

If your parents are willing to pay for an apartment for you, or you won't be financially burdened by paying for your own apartment, I would move out. If you aren't financially privileged and it is close to the school, I would live at home. In my opinion it's not like undergrad where you are trying to grow and branch out... You are going to be studying a lot. If you live near the school, you can choose in your free time to just drive and hang out with your friends wherever they live. Saving 13k a year or whatever living will cost for you is probably a good idea.

I know lots of people in my class who lived with their parents during first year. It is different than college, you'll be studying a lot so having parents there isnt going to ruin your social life bc med school does that for you. I think it is a great idea to live with you parents unless they are very distracting. I was jealous of some of classmates bc they would always talk about how they could come home to meals that their parents prepared for them, while I was scavenging my house for clean bowl to microwave ramen

I get into small fights with my mom all the time now. Plus I don't have a good place to study here at the house. Our lives are too different for the relationship to stay at where it is now or get better if I were to stay at home.

even though i have a very good relationship with my parents, i can't even imagine going through med school at my parent's house. hellz no. but i did appreciate their visit on "off" weekends every now and then.

all of my classmates who started MS1 at their parents' house eventually all moved out by the beginning of MS2.

Your comment gave me a good laugh. Parents won't ruin your social life because med school does that for you.
