Hello everyone!

When does everyone planning on moving to the area of their med school? I will most likely be moving about 2,000 miles away, and was thinking about going a month before orientation. I think the extra time would be nice to get use to my new surroundings, but I don't think loans get dispersed until the 2nd week of school.

What is everyone else planning on doing?

Thanks!

This is something I have also been wondering about. I also think I will probably want to move out there a decent chunk of time before class starts just to get settled in (I HATE moving!) Luckily I have savings that financially allow me to do that.

Also wondering this!
& If you are moving out of state, wouldn't you have to move first to provide a new address to an insurance company to get health insurance?

any information would be appreciated 🙂

I'm planning on about 2-3 weeks beforehand. But I'm still not exactly sure which school I'm going to end up choosing. I'm debating between two that are very far apart, so we'll see what ends up happening! It's so stressful, trying to figure out housing situations!

I agree! Going to school far from home is also going to require at least 1 or 2 trips to actually look at apartments, etc. before move in time.

I'm with you. At the school where I will be attending, they advised us during interview day that students should move ~1 month prior to the start of class so that they can have everything set up (e.g. utilities) and become acclimated to new surroundings.

My plan is to move in July. I'm prepared to have 2 months rent, security deposit, and money for utilities, etc. all squared away so that I don't have to immediately rely on financial aid disbursement.

Best of luck to everyone! Congratulations on your acceptance(s)!

I'm still so extremely undecided on what school I will be attending and it's crazy to think I may not really know until April. I wish I knew now honestly so I could get a job at a coffee shop or something and just get settled until matriculation. I'll probably end up moving about a month in advance. I want to feel comfortable in my home, and feel like I have my feet on the ground before real med school stuff starts.
