I'm trying to figure out what is the best option for moving. Has anyone used or is planning on using one of those "you pack, we move" type of mover? Please let me know what you've found to be best for the price.

Easiest options (depending on how close you are) will probably be:
1. Sell everything you can, uhaul the rest and buy new stuff
2. Sell everything you can, give the rest away and buy new stuff

Well i'm moving to new york from Florida in a few months, and i'm pretty much doing just that, i'm selling what I can, and the stuff I need, or don't feel like buying again, i'm packing into my car before i ship it over

I have heard good and down right horrible experiences with using the "upack we ship" method. If the stuff isnt tightly packed in and really well secured then the stuff gets thrown aroung really bad and my good friend had a few peices of furniture that were really damaged. I moved last year from Phoenix to Louisville, Kentucky and a Penske truck was the cheapest way to go, they also had the nicest trucks. If do rent a truck remember this: they price the trucks by how many of their fleet is in that particular location. For example when I rented the truck I checked other close cities to drop it off, like Indianapolis. It was 800 dollars less to drop it off there than to leave it in Louisville. So after we unloaded the next day I made an hour and a half trip north to save 800 bucks.

I moved a few years ago, but I didn't do the u pack we move thing. I did the traditional u pack u move yourself thing. I've used both uhaul and penske in the past and the penske truck was a little nicer and a smoother ride. The large trucks are easier to drive that I thought they would be, but I recommend having a co-pilot because turing can be tricky.

A trip quick to Ikea, or a delivery from Ikea can land you all the furniture you'll need - won't be glamorous furniture, but highly efficacious for getting settled in a new city.

Excellent Advice!!

I did the "u pack, we move" thing, and it was awesome. I would totally recommend it for longer trips. As mentioned for the u-hauls, it is also cheaper if you leave and arrive at hubs.

The trip from florida to NY is not that bad. (Depending on where) I have an excellent car shipping company that i can reccommend if you rented a u-haul. You can even attach a car to a U-haul depending on how much stuff you have.

I moved from NY to Ca and back to NY. I did leave all furniture in CA that i bought over the years and simply packed my car full of my stuff and shipped it accross the country.

Which car shipping company did you use? Anyone else use a car shipping company they felt was trustworthy? (I'll be moving from Chicago to Northern California). Thanks!

to move from utah to cleveland would cost $1200 for Upack, slightly more for a pod. I realized that i dont have 1200 worth of stuff: it's going to be cheaper to sell big items and then rebuy them in ohio. This way i'll actually end up saving a ton of money.

I just sold my house on Saturday and made an offer on a house today, I close on the 18th of may 2 weaks after I graduate. I am excited to move and am equally excited to start dental school, but with the signing of offers and such is giving me cold feet. At least I will be moved and settled in to enjoy Summerfest in Milwaukee.

i'm acutally thinking of just mailing what doesnt fit in my car since I have no furniture to move, just clothes, books and kitchen stuff
