Survey Question.

Who has moved cross-country to take their post-bacc classes. I am going to take the plunge, but I wanted to see what folks did first as far as relocating. Was financial aid an option? Did you have to take out a loan? I'm just asking to gain food for thought. I have a general strategy, but it's fun to compare notes. Thanks!

I'm actually pretty far from home. All my family is back home in Hawaii. I attended undergrad in southern California, and just graduated back in May this year. 2 weeks later, I packed up and moved across the country to Maryland to attend Goucher's program. Financial aid is an options, but mostly through loans. It depends on what your FAFSA says, but I'm pretty sure you can get the maximum allotment if you are independent. They allow loans for the tuition, books, rent, and living expenses. You should definitely check out the area for apartments early (rent.com is good).

Home and Undergrad- Ca
PostBac/Grad- Boston

I made up my mind, saved my pennies for a couple of months, found a room in a house in Somerville off of craigslist.com, and arrived in Beantown w/ a thousands bucks in one hand and a resume in the other. Two years later, it's still probably the best and ballsiest decision I have made thus far. Well, this and just making the choice to apply to med school with my grades- the two ballsiest things I've ever done. My point- it's a huge plunge, but the ride has been worth the price of admission. I have made great firends, made great strides in my personal and academic life, and have been exposed to some amazing things. All because I didn't listen to my parents, girlfriend, and academic advisors (!)...

I have a similar situation. I'm in Wisconsin and after I become an RN I want to go into a post-bacc program. I'm considering Loyola in Chicago (good name) and a small private girls college in Atlanta (Agnes Scott College). I'm considering Agnes because I heard that the class sizes are very small and you get individual attention. If accepted to both, should I move all the way south for a closer environment or go to Loyola because it is close to home and reports a good percentage of success for students actually being accepted into med school?????????????
All opinions are welcome.😉
