MPH 2019: Applied, Waitlisted, Accepted!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is just word-of-mouth, but I've been told by both UNC students and faculty that Gillings is very flexible when it comes to advisors. It seems they really want you to "fit" and be able to pursue the direction you want. I'd reach out to that researcher if I were you - it couldn't hurt!

Awesome, thanks! I just didn't wanna rub anyone in my department the wrong way before classes even started (if I choose UNC)!

Rejected from Harvard! And with that, my application cycle is officially over.

I am so excited about the difficult yet great choices I have ahead of me. Good luck to everyone in your future endeavors! I'll still be refreshing this thread constantly 🙂

Does anyone else have an acceptance to UC Berkeley? Is it high on anyones list? I know nothing about it and would love some insight.
hi! what program did you apply for?
they have student ambassadors who have volunteered to talk to prospective students, you can email [email protected] to speak with a current student in your program! i'm scheduled to talk with a current HSB student today, mostly interested in asking them how they pay for school/Bay area living lol. i visited last year and they have a really nice new public health building, but hoping to get more insight into the program after some more research. will update what i learn!

Loving all the positive energy coming from this forum, even with the Harvard rejections!

I just heard back from the University of Arizona for their health behaviors MPH and it's a acceptance! For anyone still waiting on this program it looks like decisions are starting to roll out.

Y'all I still haven't heard back from Columbia (or Brown but I applied super late) and I'm still holding out hope a little about the merit scholarship? Does anyone have more information/could ask for more information about whether it's "guaranteed" for everyone who meets the cut off or if it's first come first serve, or if there are other factors involved than the hard numbers? Thanks in advance!

Andddd also rejected from Harvard! Turns out all of that portal stuff was just a bunch of nonsense. Not too fussed about it since I never really expected to get in anyway. Congrats to everyone who was admitted and to the rest of us, onward and upward 🙂

a little confused.... is this an acceptance?:

"Congratulations! On behalf of the Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) division at the Berkeley School of Public Health, we are excited to reach out to you regarding your recommended admission into the MPH program in Global Health and Environment for Fall 2019. "

This is definitely an acceptance, congrats! Maybe that means at some point before April 15th they'll send out my decision, I was beginning to lose hope lol.

I applied for the global health program. I'd love to know about peoples experience here.

Hiii I was also accepted into the EHS stream at UC Berkeley! Although not Global Health. Are you considering it? It seems like a great program from what I've researched but I haven't really heard much from student perspectives or seen anyone else admitted on here until now.

So it turns out that I’ve been accepted to UNC health policy (my 2nd choice) rather than UNC global health (1st choice). Does anyone know if there is flexibility within the curriculum for me to still pursue global health curricula/is it possible to switch concentrations at a later point? I’m interested in studying social determinants of health in a global context.

There is definitely a lot of flexibility, especially in your second year, to take global health electives. I’m interested in health policy as well as my main concentration in health behavior and expressed that to a current student. She said lots of students take all of their electives in another department. Congrats!

Yeah! I am considering it, although would love to hear some student perspectives of course.

It looks like Columbia uses the 3.75 GPA and 80th percentile (for each GRE section) as a guideline for their merit scholarship. My GPA didn't meet their "cutoff" but my GRE scores did. So I feel that they look to other parts of your application as well. Frankly, I was not expecting a scholarship from them.

Well guys - my flight to LGA has been canceled so I definitely can’t make it to Columbia’s admitted students reception tonight and may not even be able to make it to admitted students day tomorrow.

Feeling very sad and frustrated right now.

Did people who heard back from Berkeley reach out to any admissions people? Still waiting and getting antsy, not sure if I should just call and ask the status, but nervous that will result in a rejection. Advice? Keep waiting?

That's awful! Where are you flying from? I'm flying to NY tonight

Also joining the Harvard reject club. Fingers crossed for Yale
Yale's campus is really cool, and it's only a few minutes from some of the worst beaches in America!

FWIW, I've tried calling a few times and they seem to not be answering their phones. I was sent straight to voicemail each time, no matter when I tried calling.

maaaaaaaaaan what is this nonsense, where!?

Pepe's! Clamtastic!

(don't knock it till you try it it's deeeeelicious)

As a New Haven resident for almost 2 years, I must say I think there are better options. Downtown, BAR has excellent mashed potato and bacon pizza (don't knock it until you try it) along with excellent beers. DaLegna has good classic pizza options, and One 6 Three has amazing funky options, my personal favorite being "The Goat" which has goat cheese, cranberry jam, asparagus, basil aioli... mmmm...

Lol so true but my hotel reservation for the two nights is non refundable. NEAT!

Definitely relying on you guys for all the insider info. Don’t know what I’d do without you 😍

Anyone still waiting on merit scholarships coming from Emory?

Unfortunately, all the merit scholarships have been awarded. After some mixed messaging I was able to get a confirmation from the director of admissions and recruitment that merit scholarships were all sent out last week and the week prior.

I got an email from Emory about an hour ago saying that I would hear back about merit scholarships and financial aid by the second week of March.
