MPH Fall 2016: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah I think you're right, and no I was pretty sure FAFSA completion wouldn't make a difference, but I just started to momentarily stress out. Haha

Oh no, it's cool, haha. I'm still panicky myself. So tempted to call tomorrow about my app.....

I hope all of us waiting get in or hear back soon. 🙂

ugh nothing from Emory yet. I'm getting worried.. perhaps they are sending in waves... Congrats to those who got in!

I think they are. Last year, people were getting accepted now and through early March that I saw. I'm assuming some people have been rejected/accepted/wait listed already though.

I'm just going to look at my brains in the lab and try to calm myself down, argh....

I was accepted to Emory for BSHE! This was my first choice, I'm so happy. Thank you all for your help throughout the process.

Edit: I was so worried about my low quantitative and verbal scores, but hopeful because of my writing score and experience/academic achievements. It's not all about test scores folks! Good luck to everyone who has not heard back yet! I can finally rest and breathe and stop being anxious.

With that GPA, your scores were just fine. Congratulations.

Did anyone that received the interview invite email from Columbia HMP last week schedule their interviews yet? I received my email on Friday of last week.

I scheduled mine this morning for Saturday 10am. I got the invite the same time you did I think.

Did you reply to their email last week or did you just wait for one of the students to contact you? I haven't gotten an email yet and I'm not sure if I should call them D:

The person interviewing me sent an email this morning with date and time options and I replied to her. You should be getting the email soon. I think maybe it takes time for them to figure out who will interview who.

Anyone hear from UofM HBHE MPH yet??

If so, when did you submit/verify and when did you receive your acceptance?? That's my number one and i'm waiting on pins and needles over here!

I've been wondering the same thing! It seems like people who applied before December or in very early December have received decisions. I applied on 12/13 and haven't heard back yet.

Yeah it sounds like it. I applied 12/15 and haven't heard anything yet either. We should be hearing soon though!

I applied to UM HBHE at the end of November and I have not heard anything either.

I'm also anxiously waiting on WUSTL. I was under review as of 12/3 and the email said to expect a decision in 6-8 weeks.

Sigh, really? On the FAQ section of their website they said they'll get back to applicants in two weeks? "The average time between the beginning of application review and notification of decision to the applicant is generally two (2) weeks. Once a decision is made, applicants will be notified via postal mail by the UGA Graduate School Admissions office."

I called last week and found out that they kept my app on hold for my 4th letter of rec request not being submitted, even though it was not a requirement. Therefore, my app was put into departmental review last week. Maybe make sure you don't have anything similar going on? I'll keep you posted if I hear anything back from UGA.

Hey! Just got into University of Georgia!

Hey All- This has most likely been answered, but for some reason I can't find anything on the SOPHAS site or otherwise. I submitted all of my applications on the 15th, and I'm waiting for verification. If I'm not verified by the deadline, does that take me out of the applicant pool? Speaking to a SOPHAS rep, it didn't seem that that was the case (you just need to have submitted/paid for the app by the deadline), but any elucidation would help. Thanks!

This depends entirely on the school. From what I can tell, most just want you to have submitted/paid by the deadline, but others want verification by the deadline. I would reach out to your individual schools at this point.

Rejected Oregon MPH Program. Awks cause its not even a Public Health School... but oh well.!

Right there with you. When were you complete for both schools and what departments did you apply to?
Verified on the last day of November. I submitted everything to GW 12/14 for Community Oriented Primary Care and Emory 12/27 for Global Health. GW said that it's still in committee last week and I should hear back soon since it's like the 4th/5th week 😛 . My worry for Emory is that my interests are actually at the intersection of Global Health and community health because it's health concerns of immigrants/asylees/refugees....so they might be rejecting me for global health and then resubmitting to my second choice, their community health program. :/ I probably am going to U of Mn but still it's unsettling to wait. haha

How long did it take Emory to contact you after you were verified?
Hey guyz! Thanks first of all for being so empathetic. It's nice not to feel alone in this process.
Not entirely sure if drewd1115's question is directed to me so I apologize if I'm being presumptive.
Emory said they received my application 1/6; they OKed my second and third department choices 1/8; OPUS stuff 1/11; and application reported completed 1/15. I was verified on the last day of November 2015 to meet some of the earlier deadlines.

^ I second Poninelee! I have this forum open on my browser at work and I check it every so often to see if people have heard back from any of the schools I've applied to 😛 I applied later than most of you so I'll have a bit of waiting to do. ARGH! But it's comforting knowing that I'm not alone in feeling anxious/uncertain about decisions that will determine the next 2+ years of my life!

Did anyone else not hear from Emory at all and go ahead and create an OPUS login anyway only to find that there had been something in the inbox there for several weeks?
I'm finding their admissions department communication to be seriously lacking.
I even emailed them a few weeks ago (which would have been after this message arrived in the OPUS inbox) saying I hadn't heard from them whether they had even received my application.

Agree with this. I would contact schools to see. For example, I know Emory wanted everything by January 5th, but they would hold your application if you had an outstanding items before they sent it to departments for review. I was verified on the January 5th, but my GRE and final rec didn't get until a week later. Granted, that's why I won't hear from Emory for a bit long, but they still told me I was being considered for admission.

Granted, I know they say that it can take up to 4-6 weeks to verify your application from SOPHAS so I would definitely check with schools who have had their deadlines already passed to see where your app is? I'm sure it'll be fine as long as you e-submitted/paid for everything. I e-submitted over the holidays (around 12/29), but had a real quick turnaround for some reason.

On the other hand, just got into U of Pitts' Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences. Probably not going because of cost of move..... but coolness! 🙂

GPA: 3.87 (SOPHAS puts it at a 3.78 because I get penalized for my Oxford Study Abroad having less classes per term even though it has a ton of work) GRE: 166 V/ 154 Q (not happy)/ 6 AW
Accepted:Tulane, University of Minnesota, St. Catherine, and U of Pitts

Thank you so much for the information! I'm a bit frantic right now because my app to Emory was verified on 1/13 but I haven't heard anything from them about OPUS or my department choices. I applied to 5 other schools at the same time and I've heard back from all of them and my app's are all being reviewed already. I just really want to keep my Emory app moving through the process instead of being stalled out.. so frustrating!!

Nah, you're not being presumptive! I don't know if this info helps anyone still waiting on that email.

I got an email from Emory on 1/8 that they had recieved my application (including emails about their webinars....missed the one today by accident, whoops....), got my login that same day (I went to Emory as an undergrad though and work for Emory so that may be why it was so quick). I got an email today, after sending it last week about my 2nd and 3rd choices respectively. They got my GRE Scores to complete my app on the 12th and my last rec on the 15th?

I e-submitted 12/28 or 12/29 and got verified by the 5th of January.

I don't think you should be worried about Emory yet. There didn't seem to be any decisions sent out for people who submitted after mid December. Maybe you'll hear back in the next wave of decisions! Also, would Emory notify you on OPUS if you were denied from your first choice department? That's what I would assume -- if anyone knows otherwise, please correct me. Regardless, I wouldn't think anything negative of not hearing back yet, you might just be lumped into the second wave of decisions.

I think a few people from this forum have had issues like this, including not even getting an email about acceptance (but seeing the admissions deposit in OPUS).

Thinking about it, when I was applying as an undergrad, I actually got invited to an accepted student event before I got my letter of acceptance as well, lol.

Agree. Many of us waiting are panicking, including myself, but honestly, as I've probably said in this thread before, many of us who applied in later Dec/early Jan will probably hear in the next wave or so (which sucks but it is what it is).

Emory is supposed to email you of your decision on OPUS (including if you were rejected and forwarded to your 2nd/3rd choice). I've read though, including this year's that seeing "Admissions Deposit" is an acceptance and that getting rejected from a 1st doesn't mean you won't get accepted pretty quickly to another department! 🙂

Yeah I have bypassed looking at my email for Emory and just keep refreshing OPUS. The possibility of not getting into first choice Global Health is just me reflecting and going ....OK maybe the community health route would be something that Emory would see me fitting into. I mean ideally I would deal with global diseases, but the populations I work with would be in the US.

Thanks for the reassurance. I hadn't considered how late I had sent Emory's application in. Just me being impatient. *twiddles thumbs*

Sounds like this has been a good week for admissions! :claps:

I myself was lucky to be accepted to Emory for HMP and invited to interview at Michigan HMP.
If any of you are visiting UMich Feb 5th, feel free to send me a message and we can help each other prep!

You never know. I think the opportunities would be quite interesting, depending on the department you get into. It'll work out somehow!

And you're fine - it is so understandable. I have seen and talked to folks who applied/got their stuff in late and still got accepted so until you get a rejection, you're still in this game. Plus, you have comrades in anxiety too, hahaha. The number of times I've had a mini heart attack from Rollins Admissions emails is quite ridiculous......

I was verified 1/4 and haven't heard either. I'm thinking next wave! Best of luck!

Thanks for sharing and good luck! When did you apply/when were you verified for Columbia?

I applied on 12/16, was verified on 12/18 and then got an email from Columbia notifying me my application was complete and forwarded to the dept for review on 12/21

First of all, congratulations to anyone and everyone who has been accepted! To those still waiting, I wish you the best of luck! We are slowly but surely inching towards the light at the end of the tunnel.

This information might be useful to people who applied later in the game. My applications to Boston, Pitt and Columbia were verified on 1/13, 1/14 and 1/14 respectively. I heard from all 3 today (1/20) saying that my app has been forwarded to the admissions committee. Not expecting to hear back anytime soon but it feels great to have them in the right spot at least.

Accepted to John Hopkins and recommended for admission to UNC Chapel Hill (Environmental Science and Engineering). I technically have to wait for the official letter. Talking to my potential UNC academic adviser tomorrow. Kind of nervous because it feels like sort of like a phone interview, even though I was essentially already accepted. Trying to prep with the right questions so they don't think they made a mistake haha.
