I'm trying to figure out what I should do during my MS1 summer. Originally, I wanted to do a preceptorship in the path department. I've done plenty of shadowing and volunteering in pathology back in my undergrad days so I have a good idea of what pathologists do daily. One of my reasons as to why I wanted to do a preceptorship is to get my foot in the door and start networking. However, it seems like the faculty here at my school don't seem to be receptive to participating in preceptorships. I'm not exactly sure of the reasons. But they seem to be pushing me to do research over the summer. I don't like research and the thought of writing a proposal to get NIH funding makes me sick. I don't want to do research as a physician; it's just something that has never interested me.
I'm not sure what I should do. Yeah, research would probably look good for when I apply for residencies, but I don't want to waste my summer doing something I dread. I guess I could always just shadow in the path department as opposed to being funded through a preceptorship. However, I would like to make some money.
Any advice or other options that I'm completely overlooking? Thanks!
