I'm a bit confused about the MSAR.

If we want to apply this year for matriculation in 2011, are we supposed to use the current 2010-2011 one or the coming 2011-2012 one?
I've been told both so I'm really confused.

If its the later, when does it come out? If we wanted to apply in June, would it come out before then? I know AAMC says spring 2010, but that doesn't help much...

I just want enough time to go through all the schools so I can decide where to apply, which is going to take a long time and it would be useless if the MSAR came out after applications open up June 1..

You should get the '11-'12 edition which comes out in April.

Seems like the current one would be fine, even if it's not the absolute most up to date thing available.

narrowing down the list gets easier once you know what to look for

I immediately look at GPA/MCAT average, in-state and out of state numbers, cost, race, and mission statement. In that order.

The most recent one is probably more useful but the likelihood that stats will change that drastically between last year and this year is unlikely. For that go to individual school websites if you're really interested in a particular school.

great i just bought the current one...

Its not like they start up 10 med schools every year. They don't really change much between editions (unless of course you are talking about a good number of years). Last years, heck even 2 years ago, will be fine. Or better yet, save your money and use the intarwebz.....its amazing, fast and updated by the schools themselves.

Or do they?

Have you seen all the new Florida schools?
