Basically the question in the title. I have taken my prerequisites at community colleges as a DIY Postbacc and am in the early stages of building a school list. Looking through MSAR I see multiple schools that either say they won't accept supplemental course credit from CC's, or that they strongly recommend showing ability in upper-division in-person science courses at a 4 year university if many of your credits are from CC's.
I'm wondering if a high score on the MCAT (specifically a 528) would mitigate this to any extent and if it would make sense for me to apply to these schools as the MCAT score would serve as that demonstration of ability, even though all of my science classes are from community colleges.

Few schools care about courses at a CC anymore. That kind of warning is usually targeted at 20 yos taking Orgo at the local CC instead of their uni because there's a belief that the CC course is easier. I wouldn't worry about it as a DIYer.

Thanks! I wasn't sure of the background since I don't know many traditional students.

The answer to your question is that these two things are kind of different. Science courses at a CC are only one component of your GPA (as I'm sure you know). Do the bolded part and prove your worth with good grades in upper division science courses at a 4 year college--and make sure to get a good MCAT score as well.

The process is only getting more competitive as time goes on. You can't afford to be deficient in any area of your application. I wouldn't highlight the fact that some your science courses are from a CC, or ask if a 4 year college makes up for it either. If it comes up in an interview, just point out things like:

1) Upward GPA trend, esp. in science courses
2) Volunteer work/shadowing, in order to show interest in medicine
3) Interest in that particular school (but keep in mind that it's a small world and therefore you shouldn't tell all your interveiwers that you intend to register there if you're accepted).

Good luck!
