MSAR only lists semester hours required for each class (bio, chem etc), but not how many quarters are needed. What's the conversion?

My concern is that I took the entire O Chem series, but only took ONE O Chem Lab out of TWO b/c the other was not required for my major. Whaddya think?

Hi Tweetie-bird, I don't know about MSAR. But AMCAS conversion is 2.7 Semester units = 4.0 Quarter units, so 1S=1.48Q. They'd probably use the same conversion.

3 qtr units = 2 sem units

i.e. multiply your qtr units by 2/3

Ok, on the AMCAS application there is this thng called credit hours under the AMCAS grade. So if the class was 4 quarter units how many credit hours is that

Tweetie,

From the pre-med advisors that I've spoken with, you're supposed to have taken all of the bio, physics, gen chem, and o-chem series with labs. I am also on the quarter system and our labs were integrated with the lecture units for a total of 5 quarter units (3 hrs lecture/5 hrs lab a week) - and we didn't have the choice of taking them separately... But since your lab/lecture weren't integrated, did you only need 1 quarter of lab for med school requirements? Just curious. Thanks.

yeap. that's all that's "required" at our specific medical school and undergrad major. I decided not to take it since I was double majoring at the time and I didn't feel like spending an additional 8 hour in the lab per week when I didn't have to.

I hope that my year of Biochem will make up for not having done O. Chem lab. It's not like I am running away from these upper level class. I just didn't wanna take what was not required. But now I"m beginning to wonder if that's a good thing. These rules applied 2 years ago when I was in school...may have changed now. I feel like I'm in deep trouble. 🙄
