Does anybody know about scholarship availability at MSSM?

I have an upcoming interveiw at Mount Sinai, am completely broke, and have a 50% scholarship offer at Jefferson. They're both awsome schools (among my top choices regardless of finacial aid), so basically, it comes down to financial determinants. I could save by not going to the MSSM interview, but if they have alot of scholarships, I feel like I'd regret not having a look.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

I understand that money is tight right now, especially after this application process. However, I always like to think of it as an investment in your future. If I were in your position, I would definately go the MSSM interview. They may give you a good fin. aid package. You really have nothing to loose except a few $$, and you never want to end up saying "what if...." in the future

how much would it cost you to interview?

I'm on the west coast, so around $500.

I've heard that MSSM offers excellent financial aid packages.

MSSM has great financial aid. Though you've already got an awesome package from Jeff, I'd still recommend spilling the 500 bucks to check out MSSM. You might like it more than you think you already do. You don't want that nagging feeling of "Oh, what could've been... " But then again, if you're sure beyond doubt that Jeff's your number one choice, then you could feasibly pass. Either way, you can't lose! 😀

500 bucks??? Uh, where do you get your airfares from? ripuofftickets.com?

Most airlines have fares to NYC from the west coast for much less. I have a ticket from LA for $195, non-stop on American.

Plus, MSSM has a hosting program. And its a damn good school. The short of it: Go.

I'd visit for sure. As for financial aid, they're pretty good about it, but they don't offer a ton of scholarships according to the financial aid counsler. They're more likely to give non-interest loans (that are interest-free THROUGH your residency) than they are scholarships. But if you show need, they can definately help you out I'm sure. I visited and I was highly impressed. It's a top school at a top hospital. After all the money you spent on the whole process, give yourself a shot at MSSM. You won't be dissapointed.
