MSU-COM Discussion Thread 2010-2011

Hi everyone, I'm going to attend the DMC campus and on the fence whether to move to an apartment in Livonia. According to google maps its about 27 minutes to campus. The apartment is 2 miles from 96, so other than that its a straight shot down to Detroit. Anyone a current student or knows a student that can tell me if Livonia is too far away? I would chose Royal Oak/Ferndale area but there aren't many apartments that allow larger dogs.

It is not too far away from our campus, I have classmates that drive from Flat Rock and Trenton. It all depends on how long you want your commute to be. Just be aware of rush hour and adjust when you leave by that.

If you really still want to check out Royal Oak/Frendale I suggest looking at nicer houses to rent. I use to live in downtown Detroit but now I live in a house in Royal Oak and I save 200/month in rent. One of my roommates has a pretty big dog and my commute is about 10 min with no traffic. Message me if you have any questions.

Hey everyone, I withdrew from COM on Friday. I hope one of get my spot.

I think I got your spot! 🙂 Thank you and good luck to you too. The only thing is, I have no idea what campus I'll be at. Which campus were you signed up for? Ideally, I'd like the DMC campus but I've head it has been full for months. Can someone from the EL campus offer some advice on housing? This acceptance totally caught me by surprise and I'm not prepared at all.

I was EL.

hello!

Congrats on the acceptances!!

I'm applying to MSU for the 2012 cycle. I was wondering if someone could upload the 2011 version of the evaluation form. I have the 2010 version and would really appreciate having the 2011 version to check for any changes. I'm thinking about giving it to my referees to write my LOR on, so they wouldn't have to write 2 different letters.

you're help is very appreciated!!

You should still list DMC as your first choice, there is a lot of movement before orientation.

Congrats on the acceptance! I was just recently pulled off the waitlist too so I know how you feel. My advice would be to join the facebook group (if you use facebook) as it is a lot more active than this thread: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_103891869673493&ap=1

Second, I would check out this service offered through MSUCOM to find a place to stay/roommate: https://apartmentmatch.com.msu.edu/

Were you on the high priority wait list or the normal wait list? Just curious! Congrats on your acceptance 🙂

I was not on the guaranteed waitlist, which I'm assuming is the low priority waitlist. Hope that helps.

Come on MSUCOM...I'm hoping for some good news this week 😀

Does anyone know what happens to people on the top ten waitlist during this last week before MSUCOM is finally full?

Not really sure what you mean. If someone gives up their spot, they email whoever's at the top of the list and offer them admission.

I was thinking they might offer spots for next year's class being so close

Unfortunately the non-guaranteed list is a traditional waiting list where they only use it until the end of the cycle and then start over with the incoming applications.

Does anybody know if its ok if your answer to the secondary prompt is similar to what you discussed in your personal statement? I covered the topic of the secondary in my PS before I knew what the essay was going to be.

Hey everyone. I was just reading through all the wait-listers talking about getting in...
... my application is fully complete as of today (as in, secondary as well)- how does this work? Do they evaluate you based on a wait-list since it's so late into their app cycle? Or are you evaluated, accepted, waitlisted (last) or rejected in a traditional sense?

Just a little curious. Thanks amigos.

hey guys this is the 2010-2011 thread. saw your questions and i felt bad -- figured i'd let ya know! you should post in the 2011-2012 if you want people to answer your questions! 👍

Hi all-I've been on the high wait-list since December and I'm still waiting. I know that in past years people were able to find out if they were in the top 10 applicants on the wait-list. Anyone know if they are also doing that this year? Thanks!
