MSU-COM Discussion Thread 2012-2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey all, I'm currently a 2nd year at MSUCOM. I noticed there are a some people withdrawing their apps because of the high OOS tuition. I don't know how competitive it is as I'm in-state, but I know that MSU does give a lot of scholarships to OOS students that reduces their tuition to the same as in-state. It's a great school and I would say if you're at all interested in attending, apply and then wait until you hear about the scholarship before deciding to go somewhere else.

Shhhhhhhh you're increasing the competition for the rest of us 😉

4 more days. Wow it's going by pretty quick. Man I better go to that CMU game on the 8th as a new spartan lol

I KNOW!!! I expect to see people with high GPAs and avg MCAT (as opposed to avg GPAs and high MCAT) to receive acceptance in the first batch.

I'm thinking that too...I would just love to be in the first batch either way. I have an interview out in California towards the end of Sept and I wouldn't mind saving (a LOT of) money by not flying out there if I were to get accepted here.🙂

I posted in the "other" MSUCOM thread... I was wondering why no one really saw it haha.

Ontario residents that get accepted, and are trying to get DMC, are you considering living in Windsor? I know a few people have responded already and it seems like a viable option, especially if there are a few people to carpool with etc.

I will definitely car pool granted I get accepted to this school. 2 MORE DAYS

Hello I am oos but I was wondering if you guys think I have a good shot at this school:

3.1/3.2/31R/ Volunteer hours above their requirement/Strong upward trend Do they generally give acceptances to oos later on in the cycle? Also, I am not canadian. Do I have even less of a shot than Canadians because of their initiative? I'm afraid my 31 mcat won't save me for this school.

31 mcat. Are you serious. The average is 27. Apply now..!! If u really want to get in.

Oh yeah complete as of 8/2. Thanks for the advice though, I know their avg is 27 but their average gpa is 3.6. Also for the information on their website, it seems that they don't weigh the MCAT as much, at least from what I read:

"For entering students our average GPA is 3.60, average MCAT score is 27 and average hours of community service are 1,200. Where we differ greatly from our allopathic colleagues is that we don’t require a score of 30 on the MCAT to walk in the door. The MCAT score tells us whether you are proficient in standardized test-taking, so we can be sure you’ll be able to pass your boards. That’s all it tells us. "

We'll never know what exactly they want. I was waitlisted last year and I have to be honest, there were many people with lower Mcats and gpa that got accepted. I just try to apply as early as I can and strengthen my weaknesses. U applied early and your oos. The only thing to do is wait. But I'd be damn lucky if I get a 31 on the mcat I just took lol.

My anxiety kicked in yesterday. I hate it. All day I have it. 😡

You guys are making it hard to not get anxious...It could still be months until I get an acceptance :s

does anyone have any pictures of inside MSUCOM? i would love to see them.

good luck everyone!

My prof just sent in the last evaluation form this morning...dunno how long it is gonna take before my application is marked complete...Knowing a lot of you will be accepted tomorrow really makes me anxious....but still...Good Luck, guys!
Does anyone know when the class is normally filled? Is it too late already? My stats are ok, 3.94 gpa, 30R MCAT, just dunno how this late submission will affect me...>_<

I don't think there will be a ton of acceptance offers tomorrow. I am expecting to see ~5 to 7 postings on SDN. In any case, good luck and let's discuss tomorrow.

Those who receive an offer tomorrow, don't forget to post your stats 🙂

Your stats are great for this school, no worries. And it's not too late - they say if u r a serious applicant stuff should be in by late August/early September. Also, I believe they like to pretty much fill their class by December (and that's 300 spots between all 3 campuses 😱). Good luck to you!

And good luck to everyone tomorrow! :xf: :xf:

stupid email from aacomas got me freaked out... good luck people. make sure u let us know if u get in lol

From what I've assumed from my recent talk with admissions, I think they're meeting around now (11 am). Good luck all! 👍

This means that some offers will go out today right? Any idea how long the meeting will last?

Freaking out!!!!!

It is good to know we were complete on the same day and you received an acceptance. I thought I was complete fairly later than most and would be reviewed later. But apparently not!

Congrats!! 👍 As a fellow reapplicant, I hope I get as lucky as you 😳

i honestly cannot believe it; especially after reading this thread i was so discouraged (considering everyone's GPAs and 30+ MCATs made my scores look puny). i'm out of state, too, but i'm not gonna let that tuition ruin my excitement just yet 😀😀😀😀

don't stop believing everybody!

Congrats AspiringDO1. Who else got in?? Don't be scared lol

I tend to be really quiet on here, but just needed to share in my excitement that I was accepted!!!! It was a complete and total shock, because I had a phone call with one of their admissions counselors who said basically I didn't have a shot because of the way they do their weighting (my undergrad science GPA was much lower than what they want, and I apparently didn't have enough grad/post-bac hours for them to consider that instead?). GLAD I STILL APPLIED. Stats below. Good luck, everyone, and DO NOT get discouraged or let someone talk you out of applying to a school you are passionate about!

Undergrad science GPA: 2.94
Grad/Post-Bac science GPA: 3.79
MCAT: 29P
Submitted to MSU mid-July, complete 7/31

ACCEPTED!!!!

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!

future classmates, where are you?!?!?!?

Hello, I am here 🙂 haha

Way to go! (I was accepted last year, but deferred. I will be in the class of 2017 with you!)

To those speculating about getting notified today, I think they are letting people know today (or at least mailing out packages). I was notified that my admission package would be on is way/ being mailed today.

Appears like they are selecting high GPA (>3.75) and avg MCAT (~27) like last year. Your stats fit closely to those who got accepted on the first week last year 🙂 Of course this is only speculation based on n= 1 so far 🙁 Any more coming?

Congrats to all those accepted today! I also deferred my admission last year until this year so I will be your classmate as well! Good luck to those still waiting!

Congrats to u, u deserve it after digging yourself out of that hole! 👍 do u think u will be going here?

Greetings SDN,

I've been visiting SDN for about two years now, had an account but never was actively posting.

Figured I would share my news with the people most interested (other than my parents, although they seem a little more concerned about the financial burden than excited for me, lol)

Received my acceptance email today at 11:09 am.

Probably! As long as I love it when I visit as much as I think I will 🙂 I am actually really interested in the DMC site...anyone have any input on that? My fiance is finishing his accounting degree at Wayne, so moving to Detroit would be incredibly convenient for both of us (side note: we live in the EL area right now, and it's not too bad so I wouldn't mind staying near main campus!).

Congrats! Can u share your stats/complete date? And u can always remind them that MSUCOM is one of the cheaper options in comparison to many other schools! 🙂

The DMC campus was really nice when I visited it a couple years ago. Although I'd prefer EL over Detroit just because I want to get away from home, DMC is definitely a solid choice. Go take a look at it! 🙂 👍

Congrats to everyone who was accepted today! All your hard work has paid off 🙂 Really hoping to hear from this school within the next few weeks. 27Q but My gpa is a 3.6 so it looks like i might have to wait awhile.
