How difficult is it to obtain multiple medical licenses?

If I understand correctly, it's not possible for a radiologist to read scans performed in a state in which he doesn't have a medical license to practice. However, it seems that in some areas multiple state licenses are almost a necessity (i.e., DC,Virginia, Maryland).

Also, I understand that medical malpractice premiums vary considerably according to one's state. Thus would a radiologist practicing in multiple states be required to purchase multiple malpractice policies?

Thanks in advance

Rex

Yes, you need multiple medical licenses if you do teleradiology. It is royal pain to maintain all of them. Telerad companies maintain large credentials departments that take care of it, every other week or so you get some other paperwork to sign for hospital credentialing or license renewal.

Malpractice is similar. There are a few companies that write nationwide teleradiology coverage The price is similar to the most expensive state included in your 'portfolio' (interestingly, the price drops to 1/2 if you restrict your practice to stay outside of Miami Dade, and NY,NY counties).
