Hello All,

I have been fortunate to be accepted to 5 medical schools, however, I have yet to receive financial packages from any schools. I am aware that after april 30th, you can only hold on to 1 acceptance but as of right now I have no preference of what school I want to go to. I want to attend a school which happens to be the cheapest. Sooo is it okay if i hold on to multiple acceptances until i receive packages from every school? I wouldn't mind losing the deposit.

no, you can only hold one after april 30th

Probs best to go to each schools website and figure out which one is cheapest. I'm sure we all wish we had money to waste on deposits so kudos to you.

its not that i have money to throw away for deposits. It is more that i would be okay wasting it knowing that i made the right choice (cheapest) and save alot alot more than $100

Would you mind losing your acceptances? Because you could if you don’t follow the rules.

Contact schools now and ask. That way you can make the best informed decision you can with the information you have.

Congrats on your success; don’t just choose the money, pick the place you’ll want to live and study with good clinical rotations and an environment you think you’ll fit with.

Medical schools are not, repeat are not required to issue any financial aid information prior to the April 30th deadline. Indeed, many schools will not do financial aid analysis until after you have decided to matriculate to them

Can't hurt to ask, though.

I see why you’d be happy to lose your deposit - the ability to lose $100 and save multiple thousands of dollars is a wise investment. Too bad that’s not possible. Of the four schools I’ve been accepted to, three give financial aid information out by second look. I’m not sure on the fourth - I’ve heard they wait until after April 30. Don’t be afraid to call the schools up and find out what their policy is. They now know where else you have been accepted to and can at least tell you whether you will receive a financial package before April 30. Good luck!

Not to derail the thread, but congrats on the four acceptances!! I've been rooting for you from afar :joyful:

Do medical schools only know the schools you're still holding offers to, can they see if you've been accepted but withdrew your application?

Hello All,

You aren't gunning for a standard recruitment package, you're looking for recruitment money.

The standard strategy is fairly simple: figure out which school has the lowest tuition, and figure out which school you would most like to attend if money were no issue. Contact the latter school and see if they will match (or beat) the former's tuition.

You can try a much more complicated scheme where to attempt to play multiple schools off each other, but that has a high risk of making everyone confused and angry.

We all want(ed) to attend the cheapest school, but it's a seller's market and scholarships are finite. If all your acceptances are to expensive private or OOS public schools, be prepared to not get much help.

P.S. The risk of hanging on to multiple acceptances after April 30 isn't losing your deposits, its having your acceptances rescinded.

I wouldn't put that much weight on the $$$. If you have no preference between 5 schools, you obviously don't know enough about the programs. First, rank the programs without thinking about $, then factor that in. 10-50k isn't much of a difference to go somewhere you will be happier at.

Will do! Planning on coming up with pros and cons and then decide. Thank you!
