What happens if one were to get an acceptance or two say at the end of December/early January but not from their #1 choice. I know that you can put down your deposit and save the spot, but if you dont put down the deposit within 15 days or however long are you completely removed from being able to attend that school? Or are you forced to maybe put down 2 acceptance deposits in this situation and withdraw from the first at a later date?

I'm just trying to plan out as I will be applying next year and some schools (i.e. UCLA, Iowa, etc.) do not even send out acceptances until much later than some others I plan on applying to. Hopefully I will have this dilemma to consider next year, but who knows.

Being confident is good, but I think you should worry about other things first.

Just make sure you have a strong app and get it in as early as possible. Find out what your top choice is looking for and tailor you experience toward what they want. Get those early interviews so that come Dec 1, you'll be notified in their first round. You get 45 days to make a decision if you're accepted on Dec 1.

If you can't do all of that, then there really is no way around laying down multiple deposits.

if you don't send in the deposit by the deadline, you completely lose your spot at the school. many people myself included are in the situation you describe, and may have to put down 2 deposits.

ya, this is always the dilemma. but think about it this way, that $1K deposit is nothing compare to >55K tuition. I like the mastercard phrase too. AADSAS fee 1000 bucks, interview fees 1000 bucks, getting into a dental sch "priceless"
actually, being a dentist ---- priceless.
