Hey guys I applied to MUSC for early admissions. From past threads I've seen that they respond during late Nov - early Dec. Thought it would be good to have a thread where we can let each other know what they've heard from the school. Anyone else apply to MUSC this cycle?

I applied to MUSC for early admissions as well! I'm hoping we hear soon! Mind if I ask your stats?

Nice that's awesome. GRE: 154 verbal; 158 quant; 4.0 Writing. Overall GPA 3.8 and Pre req GPA is right around the same, never officially calculated it. Have 80 observation hours with 25 in pediatric and 55 in a normal outpatient setting. How about yourself?

Overall GPA: 3.78
Prereq:3.75
Verbal: 156
Quant:150
Writing 4.0
150 observation hours in three settings (two of which are at MUSC)
2 letter of reqs come from physical therapists at MUSC

Your stats are solid! Keep me posted if you hear anything from them

I applied regular admissions. waiting to hear back.

I applied for regular as well. We won't hear back until late March/early April though.

Hey guys I talked to MUSC and they said decisions for early admissions would be some time next week. Just a heads up

If only they were reasonably priced for us in state students, 80 grand for in state....good grief. Not to mention, Charleston is incredibly expensive to live in for the South. I lived there in 2012 and it was quite pricy.

Those are great stats. So, we will hear back from them next week? I thought we would hear back from them December 15th.

Is that for the whole three years? Charleston is expensive.... And the traffic is horrible all the time. If I get into MUSC I would probably bike everywhere.

Also, do you mean that they will notify us next week also? Or are they waiting til December 15th?

Only reason why I applied regular decision. If I can go out of state for around the same price, I'm getting out of SC.

did you apply to univ south carolina. ?

No. I decided the program wasn't right for me.

do you mind sharing why? It's tough to tell much since they don't do interviews. I have a pending acceptance.

In short, for me it's the research-heavy basis of the program. The program (as I assume you know) is 3.5 years, with the last semester dedicated to a personal research project. I know research is very important to PT and PT is all evidence-based practice, etc, etc, but I know from undergrad that doing research isn't a high priority for me. I preferred the programs with a much smaller research component.

The other minor reasons for me were the class size and location. A cohort of 18 is just too tiny in my eyes, especially knowing I learn a lot from my peers. Conversely, though, that means you presumably get a lot of personalized attention from professors. Also, I have zero desire to live in Columbia.

Granted, you can take all this with a grain of salt since I go to Clemson (Go Tigers!). I tried to ignore my bias come grad schools. 😉 Congrats on your acceptance and good luck with your decision!

anyone know how much of the class they fill with early applicants? trying to decide if its still worth applying or a waste of $

I applied to the early cycle as well. I emailed them on Monday to ask and they told me that they were in the middle of decisions now and to expect something from them before Christmas.

Has anyone heard back from MUSC yet? I'm getting really antsy. I know they said December 15th, but I wanted to know if anyone has gotten anything from them sooner.

I haven't heard anything yet!

I received an acceptance email this morning! Another difficult decision.

I received an acceptance email this morning as well.

I as well received an acceptance this morning via email

Also hot accepted yesterday! Are you guys who got accepted from South Carolina or out of state?

Out of state - Georgia.
Really want to go, but tuition is definitely a bit more to go to MUSC. I'll decide soon though.

I got an email saying that my application will be reviewed again during the normal admission on Friday.

I graduated from Clemson university with a 3.25 and 3.4 prerequisite gpa.
150 verbal gre
157 quant gre
3.5 writing
200 hour volunteering
500 hrs working in a clinical setting

Are these decent stats or am I a long shot?

My stats, for what it's worth:

UGA (will graduate in May) bachelors of ed, Exercise & Sport Science, 3.43 overall, 3.2 prerequisite gpa.
156 Verbal, 161 Quantitative, 4.0 Writing
200 hours volunteering (150 in general outpatient, 25 special needs pediatric, 25 athletic outpatient)

Other things include working full time during undergrad (in restaurant management) and clubs (pre-pt club, rotary)

Their average acceptance GPA is 3.6, and prereq gpa is also 3.6 I believe.

I talked to them back in spring asking what they accounted for most and they said the quantitative score on the GRE was heavily weighed.

do you think its too late to apply now? i know that the application is not due until the 31st but do you think they've already started giving out more interviews?

MUSC doesn't do interviews or rolling admissions.

Did they say the reason for why the Quantitative was weighed so much? Most schools don't look at the Quantitative that much.

They said they would review my app again also in the regular decisions. My GPA is above their average but my pre-req GPA is a tiny bit below their average due to a few B-'s. My Quantitative is subpar but I didn't think they would weigh that part so heavily. Everything else is great. Now I'm getting kind of concerned. It seems like they care more about the GRE than GPA.

Does anyone that has been accepted know if there is a FB group? I'm beginning to look for places to live and possible roommates.

Has anyone heard back from MUSC for those of you who applied regular decision?

No, I haven't heard anything yet. I imagine we should find something out in the next 2 weeks. Hopefully sooner rather than later!

Anyone heard anything or know when they are expected to release regular decision admissions?

I called them about a week ago and they said to expect a decision around the first of March.

I really hope that means we hear something tomorrow or Monday at the latest then!

I got an offer of acceptance about an hour ago!! I'm so excited!! Anyone else hear anything?

Ahh ok! I was confused. Thanks!!

For the students that did get in. Would you mind telling giving your stats?

Sure thing!

I graduated from the University of Virginia with a 3.79 GPA. I majored in Spanish and Environmental Sciences.
I studied abroad in Spain and after I graduated, I moved back to Spain to teach English. It wasn't until later that I discovered my interest in becoming a physical therapist. I'm a non-traditional student because I lived in Spain for 5 years after graduating from college, until last summer.

165 verbal GRE
154 quant GRE
4.0 writing
over 600 hours volunteering or working in clinical settings (in Spain and the US)

Graduating from Clemson in May.
3.92 overall GPA
4.0 prereq GPA
159 verbal
156 quant
4.5 writing
~120 hours shadowing in various settings

How many students do they accept each year?
