I've still got my fingers crossed for my state school, hopefully I get in.

As of right now my options are Medical University of South Carolina or Roseman.

Cost of attendance for all four years is estimated at 500,000 for MUSC and 425,000 for Roseman. Yearly tuition for MUSC is about 85 and roseman is 66.

I can't assume I'll get any scholarships.

I'd appreciate any and all opinions. Thanks in advance!

Are you taking full CoA out in loans?

I just interviewed at Roseman and their total cost of attendance is about 109k/yr. Their yearly tuition and fees is 82k, not 66.

Yeah it's outrageously high. Luckily I won't have to take out living expenses anywhere I went

Living with parents? or scholarship/military?

Cant say about Roseman. But MUSC is great. Great faculty, students, nightlife, opportunities, you name it.
Beautiful city, beautiful girls (or guys, if you're into that kind of thing).

But I really cant understand why anyone would pick MUSC from OOS (unless it's the only school you got in) with that kind of price tag.

It's an excellent school, but I dont think there's a dental school out there that are worth half a mill in their education. For $500k, I'd expect gold plated handpieces and loupes.

But it looks like your hands tied either way. Good luck getting into your IS school.

MUSC is private, right? I think everyone there is paying half a million.

No...it's always been a public school. I should know, I checked the in-state resident box when I signed matriculation papers.

MUSC is a public state school, but I am out of state. They must not get much state funding because even in state tuition is rather high. I did my undergrad in charleston.

Yes, so far these are my only two acceptances. If I get into my state school I will go there. That might not be an option. Still waiting to hear from a few other out of state public schools.

Roseman tuition is listed at 66 for last year, you get to 86 after adding the fees. It gets up to 100 pretty quickly after estimated living expenses.

Thanks for all the input so far.

The tuition is high mostly because of the 60 million clinic built a couple of years ago combined with the fact that law makers in SC likes to shoot down policies that are in favor of higher education. Which is why CofC is also struggling.

Can't say I have been to SC. But Utah is definitely a nice place to live. Something you should look into is where is demand for dentists higher, in SC or UT? Also, dental school is pretty rigorous and you will get a great education at both schools but where will you be more comfortable living?

I will say that there is not alot of supply of dentists in rural SC. But those are usually not the place I'd not like to live. Charleston is probably the most liberal, most classy city out of all the cities in South Carolina, closely followed by Greenville. Anywhere else and it's really country and has alot of rednecks. Kind of like anywhere else besides Atlanta in Georgia.

Utah is probably the most saturated market there is. Definitely up there with california especially considering the smaller population.

Dont know what you decided but I was sort of in your shoes. once. I'm a fresh D2 student at Roseman. I dont think you can make a bad choice. Both schools are expensive and great. I don't want to live in Utah forever but I love my school and love Utah even more. I'm not Mormon but still love the heck out of Utah. This is a world wide destination state for skiing, rock climbing, big game hunting, trout fishing and more. Dental school is mostly dental school, but its surprising how much free time you actually end up having. I think that liking the area you live in is EXTREMELY important when choosing a school.
