Hey guys. So I'm waiting to hear back from MUSC and I know they send out letters at the end of November/early December. I'm wondering if anyone can just tell me what they think my chances are and if anyone else applied/has been accepted/has been waitlisted and what their stats were. Here are mine (per MUSC)
Cum. GPA: 3.05
Pre-req GPA: 3.48 (not including Physics II and Abnormal Psyc. which are both A's and will make my Pre-req a 3.58)
GRE: v153 q150 a4.0
Hours: 450 (300 outpatient/spine specialist, 40 inpatient/acute, 8 pediatric/NICU, 90 private outpatient)
Extra-curriculars: IM sports all 4 years, taught free exercise classes for low income families during undergrad, race for the cure team captain (3 years)

I know my stats aren't the best. 🙁 Any opinions appreciated! MUSC is my number one choice. Thanks guys!

I know a Therapist that went to UNC- chapel hill and he had a class mate that applied to MUSC (before be accepted to Chapel hill) and interviewed there. He was not accepted at MUSC and they advised him to apply to their Medical School instead. So evidently it is harder to get into their PT program than medical school according to this therapist. Now I must also note that this happened back in the late 90's so I don't know if that is still true or not and it really has nothing to do with me knowing anything about their program but I always thought it was an odd story.

Wow that is a crazy story. Hopefully it doesn't still hold true haha but thank you for your input.

MUSC is currently my first choice school so that I get in state tuition.

I don't want to take the wind out of your sails, but it's an extremely competitive program and their average gpa is usually between 3.6-3.7. They got almost 600 applicants last year from what I have heard. Everyone I know who was accepted there was over a 3.5 cumulative and prereq gpa.

Your prereq is decent, but your cumulative GPA and GRE are below their averages.

It's basically a raw numbers school since they don't have an interview.

Best of luck to you though.

Thank you very much for your honesty. I know my chances are slim. I saw on one of the forums where someone last cycle has been wait listed with a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 2.98 pre req GPA so it gave me a little hope but like I said, they were wait listed. Not getting my hopes up! Just wanted to see what your opinions were. Thanks myosin!!

As far as GRE MUSC evaluates your highest Verbal score along with your highest overall (3 sections combined percentiles) test score. They look for 50th percentile on each section, but averages have been higher than that for incoming classes.

I'm in the 62nd percentile for verbal, the 53rd percentile for math, and the 48th percentile for analytical writing. I know my stats aren't perfect, but I feel like overall they're decent, except for my cumulative GPA. But I guess we'll see! Thanks for the input.

Leh are you sure you are using the updated percentiles for your scores? On the table for your scores I see 57th, 43rd, and 49th respectively.

wow you're right. that's what it had said on my score report but i guess all of the scores weren't in or something? i don't know how that works. it had originally said those percentages, but i just went to look again and got the percentages you listed. that sucks ha i got deferred to regular decision but i'm still trying to stay positive. if i have to, i'll take more classes and retake the GRE again.

I believe depending on when you took the exam the percentiles change. I think they are only good for a certain date range. Keep your head up. I applied last year, got waitlisted and ultimately did not get in last year. And today I found out I didnt make early admissions also, so I feel your pain.

ahh okay, that kind of sucks but definitely makes sense. i wonder if PT school is half as tough as applying/waiting ha just kidding. but i have faith things will work turn out better for you this year! hopefully they see that you applied last year and aren't giving up by applying this year! i'll be crossing my fingers for you axesmasher! (and for me and for the rest of the applicants as well!) mind if you share your stats? you can PM me if you don't want them to be public! or you don't have to share them at all!

I think that was me, and I was like the bottom of the barrel. I updated my prereq to 3.4 this year, so hopefully when I apply reg admission, I'll be higher on the waiting list this year. Anyways, my friend had a 3.8 GPA and 299 GRE and just got moved to the reg admis cycle. If you didnt have above a 310 GRE apparently, you were moved to reg admission. I'm not sure why everyone wants to go to MUSC to be honest, maybe just because it is in downtown Charleston, but there are much better schools you can get into with the grades they have been accepting. Honestly from my experience, getting accepted is very political.

Yes! I went through old threads and saw your post. That's great that you've gotten your GPA's up. Do you know if a lot of people got in from the waitlist last year? Seems pretty tough to get into. Best of luck to you this year! Hopefully they'll acknowledge your improvements!!

Thank you. Honestly, Dr. Bowman was so discouraging when I met with him personally that I highly doubt that I have any chance. But because I've lived in downtown Charleston the last 7 years I am applying again. Yeah there were a good portion of people that got in that were on the waiting list. Try and get your name in as much as possible. Maybe even schedule a meeting if you can.
