I've noticed that some schools have a hefty humanities credit requirement, for example USC = 30 semester units.

I was wondering if music performance classes count in this category, for example: chamber ensembles, symphony orchestra, etc.?

If not, I don't know how I can satisfy this requirement unless I start loading up on humanities classes. I'm on quarter system, and if 30 semester units = 45 quarter units, assuming each humanities course is 4-5 units apiece, I can't see myself taking 12 humanities courses in the next 2 years. (I am a biochem major and I want to graduate on time.)

Any answers to my original question or insight on how to satisfy the humanities requirement is appreciated. Thanks!

According to wiki: "The humanities are academic disciplines which study the human condition, using methods that are primarily analytic, critical, or speculative, as distinguished from the mainly empirical approaches of the natural and social sciences.
Examples of the disciplines of the humanities are ancient and modern languages, literature, law, history, philosophy, religion, and visual and performing arts (including music). Additional subjects sometimes included in the humanities are technology, anthropology, area studies, communication studies, cultural studies, and linguistics, although these are often regarded as social sciences. It says music would count. The real 'safe' way though: contact the school. If they say yes, you're fine.

As for USC:
"Social Sciences, Humanities, and English Composition 30 semester hours"
http://www.usc.edu/schools/medicine/education/admissions/mdp/mdp_adm/require.html

So it's 30 hrs of social sciences, humanities, and English comp, not just humanities. Don't feel like counting, but I would think the Liberal Arts requirement of my degree would fulfill 30 hrs.

I thought it counted too; after all, it is in the Humanities department.

Okay thanks for your help!

Do you guys know how semester hours converts to quarter units? Or is it the same?
