Hey everyone,

I just want to ask about these two schools that I have been accepted into. I have about a week and a half to submit the deposit. I have made my own list of things I like/dislike about both, but I want a few opinions on these differences.

1) AZCOM has traditional teaching curriculum. TUCOM-CA has systems-based/problem based learning curriculum. What is your experience with either of these?
a) AZCOM's one class subject test per week or TUCOM-CA's block schedule testing every 3 weeks for multiple classes.

2) AZCOM has about 250 students in a class vs TUCOM-CA's smaller, 135 student class size.

3) AZCOM's amazing, beautiful campus vs TUCOM-CA's navy base buildings. I am also a Bay Area resident and have grown up and finished undergrad here too. Although I think it would be nice to change scenes, living at home would make post-grad debt so much less daunting.

4) I want to stay in CA for rotations. AZCOM has sites in LA or SD but mostly in AZ, while TUCOM-CA basically has most of their sites in CA.

5) AZCOM's high COMLEX scores might mean better prep for residency match vs TUCOM-CA's around national average scores.

If you can save money at TUCOM and want to practice in California, that sounds like the place to be. Touro's core rotations are mostly in the Bay Area or just outside of it, too.

I would also love to hear people opinions. I am sort of in the same situation, accepted to AZCOM and have an interview at Touro soon!

Whatever little marginal advantage AZCOM could give is not worth the 40k+ in extra tuition after 4 years.

It sounds like your mind is more made up than you think. I can imagine leaving the Bay Area would be hard. If you want to practice in California, you should go with the school in California.
HOWEVER, having been to both schools, AZCOM's facilities are more impressive. Even as someone who enjoys military history A LOT, I found it a little off putting that the naval base/historic hospital the school is amidst is in such bad shape (Could it be overlooked? With Bay Area weather, 100%).Hopefully the school gets the green light to start redoing some of the adjacent building.

All the previous threads end up discussing cost as an issue. However, BESIDES cost can anyone please throw in some input?
Any insight to AZCOM or TouroCA would be helpful! thanks

I don't know what the personality of the students at AZCOM is like but for the most part everyone at Touro especially in my class was friendly, helpful, and non-gunner. Don't get me wrong, we have a lot of great matches over the years but it's not a hyper-competitive environment.

Touro probably wins in location since the Bay Area has so much to offer in the way of travel, entertainment, food...

I'm in the same boat. I can't decide between AZCOM or TOURO-CA. I grew up in CA and I went to school up in the Bay Area. Anyone have anymore advice?

Pros for AZCOM.
- great board scores
- better facilities
Cons for AZCOM
- expensive ($55k)
- large class size

Pros for TOURO
- it's in CA
- smaller class size
Cons for TOURO
- facilities are a little older

board scores or staying in CA...

I live in the Bay Area, was accepted to both, and chose AZCOM.

Certain things during the interview at Touro rubbed me the wrong way, although I thought the teachers and students all seemed great. No doubt that it's a great school to attend.

I picked AZCOM because I liked the way the curriculum was set up, that they aren't necessarily "committed to primary care", and their impressive match list.

Not saying they don't have this stuff at Touro (or any other school for that matter) but at the day its all personal preference and deciding whats most important to you.

I understand that AZCOM proudly publishes its board pass rates and averages on its website but how do you know that AZCOM has better averages than Touro? I don't think Touro publishes this; I know we as students have never had access to our class averages.

Frankly, board scores are more a reflection of your individual effort and prep than anything else. I go to Touro but I think AZCOM is a great school. I don't think you can go wrong in this decision... just pick the one you liked better and where you felt more like you "fit."

Yeah I agree that "fit" is important, I am leaning towards AZCOM for that reason

I like seeing other people's perspective though!
