This is my first post, I'll try to make it short. I got into three schools, UCMK, ASDOH and MWU-IL.

I've narrowed it down to ASDOH and MWU-IL, and I would love some feedback on which school to go to. They are both similar in price, less than 5k apart. So I cannot decide, can someone please Give me some advice? Thanks!!

I will list the main differences between the 2 schools:

MWU-IL:
-Opportunity to be the first dental class
-Everything is new
-Campus community feel
-Bigger class size (~125)...may be good if you are single
-On campus housing
-Close to Chicago...more things to do
-Very cold winters

ASDOH:
-Do it if you are interested in pursuing public health and community dentistry
-Campus consists of a few buildings...not much around the area
-Smaller class size (~70)
-Have practicing alumni
-Very hot summers

This would be a hard decision for me as well. I've lived in Phoenix for the past year and I love it here. As someone else has posted, ASDOH has a big focus on public health dentistry. If it were me, I would choose ASDOH...mainly because I do not like cold winters. I'm sure the facilities are a lot nicer at MWU-IL, however. It really doesn't matter because you will receive a fine dental education at both schools. I say do whatever makes you happier.

Destiny listed the main selling points for MWU IL. I've been to the school a few times to check it out and the school is almost finished. It will have all new facilities, latest technology and of course you will be the first class ever. If you are worried about it being a new school, these guys know whats up having modeled it after AZ.

Destiny11 is funny. Pointing to all good points for MWU-IL and all bad points for ASDOH

MWU-IL is not accredited , Chicago is a cold city, the school is brand new and first year students will suffer because of lack of knowleadge by staff, it take years for a school to get on their feet.

ASDOH is a very good school with an excellent program.

its your choice!

Thanks for all the responses!!! 🙂

I'm still stuck in between each school, AZ is closer to home (i'm a socal girl) but i still can't decide. Both schools are great... 🙁 Anyone else wanna chime in their opinion? Thanks!

I listed good and the bad for both schools. MWU-IL will be a good school...it's modeled after MWU-AZ.

You don't want to be the test dummy class for any school. Going to a established school that has tested and placed systems that have proven to work is always the best way to go. UNLESS the school is dirt cheap and going through the ups and downs is a small price to pay compared to the tuition, i.e. ECU.

Exactly! MWU-IL will be one of the most expensive schools aswell. Total tuition + living cost is close to 100K per year!

I'm in a similar situation as you and I decided to go with MWU-IL. People really can't relate unless they've been to the campus, interviewed, and seen what the school is really about. The school has initial accreditation, and the faculty have been pulled from other top dental schools in the country. We'll hardly be "test dummies." There's alot more to it than just a price tag!

Yeah, I know what you mean, both schools are relatevly the same in total costs. ASDOH is 91k and MWU-IL is 96k, so I don't see costs too big of a factor. Someone please help me decide. 🙁 I don't want to hog up someones space.

If you want to specialize later on, you are in WAY better position if you go to ASDOH

I think either campus will prepare you well if you want to specialize. I would think MWU would prepare you better for private practice, while ASDOH will prepare you more towards working in a community health center, which will primarily be general dentistry. You will be required to complete a certificate in public health and lead volunteer projects at ASDOH, so it could be a burden if you are not interested in that.

ASDOH is my top choice :xf: because I am interested in working in a CHC, so it depends on your personal goals as a dentist.

By the way th2002, why are you on probation?

Destiny is this MWU-IL the only school you have been accepted to?
If YES than its obvious why you are insisting to to invite people to a none accredited school.

There you go! You dont want JESICASIMPS to ATTEND ASDOH because thats your top choice!

MWU-IL have its initial accreditation. Don't give out false information. MWU-AZ and Western both turned out to be great schools with happy students. I see why you are on probation now .

The funny thing is that you mentioned in previous post that ASDOH is your top choice, why do you insist of asking her to join MWU-IL?

Answer that

I don't wanna shoot anyone down but if your on the asdoh waitlist, it is highly unlikely they will take u off the list, they usually only review the newly interviewed candidates spots.

Go with UMKC. Cheaper and has the best track record of any school you've been accepted to. I would kill to go there.

How sure are you with this statement? What is your source?

My friend last year was on the wait list asked one of the adcom last year because he had already gotten another acceptance, and they told him hold review the applications when he called in.

Do you mind rephrasing what you wrote here? I'm a little confused 😕

Having faculty with prior experience in education is a must for a start up school. Secondly, unless these faculty members all got together and started a dental school in their past lives then sure the first class will not be a dummy.

i'd go to MWU-IL if i were you. i'm going to MWU-AZ so we'd be kind of related! hehe

but anyways, the dean at MWU-AZ was talking about the one in IL and it sounded pretty solid to me. both MWU and ASDOH are good schools, but MWU has campus housing. i really like the community that comes with living with other students. and of course, MWU's class size is bigger, which means more networking and connections after you graduate!

o and by the way, i live in arizona... it's hot. i mean it's really hot lol. you pretty much survive by running from one air-conditioned building to the next. but the winters are nice :O)

all in all, MWU-IL!
