My school offers the required Biology I & II prereq over a course of 3 semesters and not two unlike most of other schools I know. However, I decided to do my Bio prereq at a local community college because I could use that extra semester taking Cell or Genetic instead of the third semester of Intro Bio. When i asked about this to my premed advisor, he seemed bit hesitant. I called a couple of UC med schools and asked about this and almost all of them said as long as these are the only CC classes. I sort of got the impression that they weren't going to be too happy with this. What do you guys all think? Should I do this at a local CC or at my current 4 years univ?

I think your premed advisor would be hesitant to suggest you take courses at another institution. After all, they work for the school. Your logic in wanting to take another upper level science course seems reasonable. I think it would be a bad decision for a course like Organic Chem, where it would look like you were avoiding the 4 year school. Intro Bio, though, I think would be ok, as long as the upper level sciences are at a 4 year school. For my postbac studies, one of my universities offers Intro Bio in three semesters. Biology, Botany and Zoology. Genetics vs. Botany, I think I'd prefer the Genetics. I think I'd do the same thing as you, in fact I am, but at a 4 year state school that is local also (maybe that is an option?). Do you have a degree already? Do you need the credits to transfer toward graduation from the 4 year school? Things to consider...
