Hey guys! This is my first post here on SDN and was wondering if anyone could give me some input on applications to programs here in the states. I am going into my senior year and I elected to hold out on applying until next summer (2016 cycle) to enhance my portfolio. I am a Florida Resident.

Grades

cGPA: 3.6 (Upward Trend) should be ~3.7 by graduation
sGPA: 3.45 Should be ~3.55 by graduation
Two C's: 1 in Orgo 2 1 in Biology 2. Had a year with health issues (vertigo) and passings in the family. I am retaking Biology 2 in the spring semester.

Shadowing/Volunteering

- 250 volunteering hours in various health care related settings (ICU, ER, Family Practice, Podiatry)
-50 hours Medical Mission Trip Volunteering in Cusco, Peru. (Drew Blood, Performed Vitals, Ultrasounds etc.)
-Substantial non clinical volunteering
-160 shadowing hours (General Surgery, OB/GYN, Cardiology, Family Medicine, Internal medicine)

Research

~60 summer hours in a physical chemistry research lab on Amyloid B research
~Year in research lab on migraine treatment will graduate with honors in major and write thesis this year.

Other
Started two Registered Student Organizations on campus, leadership positions in both.
Fraternity Leadership roles
CEO of a tutoring company sophomore year

MCAT: 507

I really need help making an application list for next year! Do I have a shot?

Thanks in advance for the help

So you're applying next year? If you can bring your GPA up like you predict I think you will be pretty competitive for "lower tier" MD schools & you should be fine for a lot of the DO ones! I wouldn't be concerned about the few Cs since you have legitimate reasons for why that happened (health/death in the family).

FL schools, especially the three newest ones, will be your best shot, + the two DO schools.

Other schools would be Oakland-B, Creighton, U VM, Rush, Loyola, MCW, SLU, Netter, TCMC, VCU, EVMS, and any DO school.

I am a florida resident. What other programs, DO/MD do you think i should add to my list of florida schools? Also do I have a shot?

Would being a third generation applicant help me for Rochester?
