I have been reading sdn for almost three years now. I was one of those people who reads posts but never writes (ya, you know who you are).
Anyways, I did read some helpful things for the step 1 exam. I thought it may be time for me to contribute. You take some, you give some, right?
I don't know how much I could add. I mean, pretty much I studied from many of the recommended sources of this site. I found the correlations from this site to be particularly helpful because it gave a good way to evaluated where you are at (as we all know, this can sometimes be difficult).
in terms of correlations,
q bank (started around feb. got 44%) but finally ended up with a 70%, no repeats, but I did study up on a subject and do those questions afterwards
-these q bank aren't so predicative of your actual performance.
q bank full length is around 71%
kaplan cd 70%
kaplan in center 79% (this was actually a good experience, because you really get to simulate it in a test center. I would recommend this if you have the chance. Also I went over all the questions later with answers. It took a while but it was worth it)
nbme released got 85.3% overall. I did gave myself an extra 4 minutes on the second section.
nbme test 1 = 510, I did this before I started studying (but after I took the self exams); I don't think there is really a point to doing the second one.
overall I studied for 6 weeks, but it was really more like 5 weeks, with 6hrs/day, because I pretty my was sick of studying the last week and didn't do anything. I really recommend not doing too much the last week if you can avoid it; I just feel that overworking the last week can drain you out mentally. I think the best way to score your max for this test (if you are disciplined enought) is to do 3-4 weeks and 12 hrs. This test is really about cramming. I wasn't disciplined to do that, so I stretched it out. I think that stretching it out could hurt your score.
I had an mcat of 32, O
I had an sat score of 1410
slacker, cramming, last minute type
got a 242
I don't go to a top 50 school. Although I did get excepted to a couple of them; I went for the cheaper state tuition as opposed to those private institution tuition.
thanks for those whose wrote helpful posts in the past
take care
