haha jk..
but yah...
i was kinda curious..
what D.O school tend to put alot more of there students into competitive residences
im currently finding alot of people saying that pcom and dmu-com have the best chances of landing a good residency
and then im looking at people who say ccom is good but other saying that they dont land into competitive residences as well as other D.O schools

hehe =-/
the title was more of a eye catcher then anything lol

hahaha... you just used the wrong then again.

but on a serious note...check out other similar threads(your question has been discussed many many times) or school-specific threads.

Landing a competitive residency spot has little to do with the school you attend and more to do with you capabilities in landing said residency spot.

I think you meant my DO school brings all the boys to the yard, and their like, it's better than yours..

The school doesn't put graduates into competitive residencies...it's what the students want to do.

Hypothetically speaking a top notch school could have all of its graduates want to go into a "non competitive" specialty like family medicine. If you saw their match list of all family medicine, that might turn you off, however if all of the students got their top family medicine residency spot then that's a good thing.

Looking at a match list doesn't necessarily tell you much about the school.

Don'tcha wish your school was hot like mine? Don'tcha wish your school was freak like mine?

Well I have more posts then you.

I went to get some food, than I went for desert. Than again, maybe I shouldn't have eaten the desert. I wish I had more to say then this.

The most impressive residency match list I've seen was for KCUMB.

their - "They drove their car."
they're - "They're not here right now."
there - "Go stand over there."

As a doctor, you should know too or three of these sound-alikes. Its really not two much to ask.

Here is some assistance for you:

Where you used the word "two," instead you should have used "too."

Where you say, "Its really not..." instead you should have said, "It's really not..."

I have no interest in continuing a conversation solely based on these types of posts; however, if you are going to correct someone, please don't make two glaring mistakes.:S

I think that sarcasm is hard to catch on here as I'm sure that is what was going on. And to be completely correct there were three, not two mistakes from the sentence below leading me to believe it was meant to be sarcasm more than anything else.

Really???

KCUMB is a FANTASTIC school, but they have a HUGE class size (from what I could tell on the previous match list), so that could play a factor. I always thought CCOM/KCOM looked just like any Allo list (derm, ortho, lots or rads, gas, ENT, etc).

Seriously though, match lists are worthless. Like others have said ... they really should make the lists: student, where they matched, what number/choice was it. You could have a DO school that is all FM/IM, but if every single person got their first choice, it would technically be a really impressive list, but it wouldn't look like it without that rank.

explain. do you have any clue about the actual programs people matched into?

I assume that anesthesiology at Mayo and Johns Hopkins are good programs, just as I assume path at USC and Cedars Sinai is good. Several students also matched allo radiology and while I don't know if the specific programs are good, I know that allo rads is competitive, especially for a DO.

KCUMB's class size is no larger than many other DO schools. I don't know how you saw derm on any DO match list, considering it's not listed. It shows up as a TRI. And KCUMB had plenty of ortho, rads, gas, and ENT.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's what people like to say, but I think that if a school has a good match list, people will know that it is possible to end up at those places. LECOM-B matched allo ortho. Something like that DOES matter, imo.

I will say, out of the three schools that I interviewed at, NSU had the best swag. On the other hand, COMP gave us free breakfast (you get up to $5 credit, IIRC, at the bookstore in the morning) and lunch.

AOA derm is matched after a TRI as a PGY 2-4, however a lot of places that are AOA can do unofficial agreements with students before they actually apply as an intern, so students list those agreements on the match lists from time to time. For example, CCOM has an AOA derm match listed in either 08 or 09. Several schools, CCOM comes to mind, also match people into ARMY residency derm, which is technically ACGME, which means they match their intern and residency at the same time (unlike AOA) so it shows up on the match list. I believe a few DO schools too in the past couple years have just straight up put people into ACGME derm too, I'd really have to pull all this up to confirm this (not going to right now), but I've done my research on the derm matter.

Trust me, I am not bashing KCUMB ... at all. It is a top, top medical school. Notice how I didn't say DO school either, it's just a top medical school, period. I've just personally been a little more impressed with a few others. Also, KCUMB has a first year class size of 266, whereas the other schools I specifically mentioned, have 172 (KCOM) and 173 (CCOM - though I think they went up to 200 for this year), so quite a noticeable difference, which can cloud a true judgment of a match list (which like I said, KCUMB is still amazing and I put no weight into anyway). Source - AACOMAS.

NSU swag? All I got was the folder with the program info. guide, match list, and the graduation magazine...then again, the magazine was printed on GLOSSY paper 🙂

CCOM gave us a cool pen/highlighter and a stress ball shaped like a brain or heart (your choice!)

The folder... but the folder was one of those nice puffy ones, not just a basic thin walled folder like the other schools were giving out.

Of course the absolute best swag come by email or post and starts with the word "Congratulations..." 😉

Oh, and KCOM gave me a cold. 🙁

DMU has one of the higher MCAT averages for their matriculating class (27.2). Schools with higher averages generally have smarter classes. That is what I would base it on, rather than matching. Unfortunately even at Harvard you get a nice diversity of matches, because lots of people like to go into a lot of different things.

What? How in the world did you come to that conclusion?

You must be using the humanistic logic, which assumes the more EC's you have the smarter you have, which I say is false!

Dear pre-meds,

I think the world of you, but please for the love of god, read more and post less.

Sincerely,

To the mods- When can we make the search function a pre-test for obtaining an account?

Well... if you seem to think my assumption is false, I am waiting to hear what you think is so much better?

Do you think standardized tests are in place for kicks and giggles?

Its one test....

I am at DMU. I got a 25 MCAT. I also happen to be in the top 1/4 of my class. Riddle me that.

MCAT score is a statistical correlation to board performance. Not matching ability.

I, too, am at DMU. How did you find out your class rank already? Advisor or elsewhere? I would be interested in finding out my current placement.

ehh..my test scores vs. the averages. I'm floating somewhere up there. Unless the DPM's are dragging our averages way down, which could be. There's no possible way to tell exact rank yet :d.

Didn't you get a full scholarship? Or am I thinking of someone else?

No, I only got the half. Though I'm certainly not going to complain about that one.

Sounds like you're doing great! 👍 Back to polishing up embryology and the inguinal region for tomorrow's exam! Good luck on that one yourself!:luck:
