Hello everyone. I just took the test 9-30. I thought I would post my dat experience because I have read others and found many of them helpful. I have been out of college for over 7 years and felt like I had to completely relearn Ochem, chem, and bio. I have been studying on and off for about the last 6-8 months while managing a cell phone store (full time). I did not feel ready to take the test (I did not buy dat destroyer and I did not use dat acheiver other than looking at a few questions that were posted on sdn before as being on the test). Here are my scores.
RC 19
QR 22
Bio 20
Chem 21
Ochem 29
PAT 18
AA 22 96.1% 🙂
I know they aren't the highest but I am very pleased. Here is what I used to study: Dat audiolearn (good for basic review and listening while driving), Top Score (very very helpful), Kaplan, Barrons, Schaums for Chem and Ochem (good for more detail on stuff that I did not understand from Kaplan), and the Kaplan tests.
Going into the test I felt pretty weak on the chem and only decent on Ochem.
I thought the bio was pretty tough. I think I had to make educated guesses on about 15 questions. I got some of the same questions that were mentioned on sdn before (sea urchin, frog nucleate).
Chem and Ochem were both pretty easy but I know I got lucky on some of the Ochem questions because I wasn't sure of a few. For those of you starting out that want a confidence builder on that section, when I first started studying, I did not even remember what a carbonyl group was
Kaplan tests are harder.
I thought the QR was very easy but I am pretty good at math. I had taken all the kaplan tests and it was WAY easier than they were and easier than topscore. I don't know trig that well and got 3 or 4 trig ?'s. I just remembered the graphs of sin and cos, knew socahtoa, and sec, cossec, and I was able to figure them out except for one. I think topscore was a great help on this section.
PAT Everyone said that PAT was harder than Kaplan and Topscore so I was expecting the worst. I was scoring 19's, 20's, and 21's on topscore and kaplan. The Keyholes, TFE, cubes, and holepunching were comparable to Kaplan and Topscore. I think I spent too much time on the angles and I felt rushed on the cubes and folding. I think I made alot of stupid mistakes on the cubes and I had to guess about five on folding without looking.
Reading is not my strong suit. I got the asteroid, brain imaging, and magnesium topics. The asteroid and brain imaging sections were pretty easy and I had 30 minutes left for the magnesium. That topic was a b#%ch and I actually ran out of time. I scanned each paragraph quickly and wrote down a couple of things about the paragraph on my scratch paper and numbered it. I think on topscore I got a 19,20, and 21.
If anybody has any questions about the test I would be happy help.
