I just recently took the CASPER test. It was.........I'll just say technically challenging. The videos wouldn't load until I refreshed the page at least three times, the whole thing froze up on me twice and I had to restart my computer. The technical glitches made me lose time and I ended up not finishing a few questions.

As far as the content, this is not the kind of test you study for unless you already know the questions being asked and come up with responses beforehand, which isn't actually studying. The questions are about your personal opinions and experiences.

Did you do the browser check/test recommended prior to starting your test? Perhaps your network connection is not good? Those sound like the culprits here - if it was something on their servers, it's likely that many people would have had the same problem.

casper is a complete joke.

they even moved my scheduled exam by an hour (notifying me less than 24 hours prior) like they assume my entire life revolves around their test.

ofc then the test barely works/lags/fails for bunch of test takers

Agreed. Casper is by far the most BS premed hoop out there. As for "you can't study for it..." blah blah, don't drink the koolaid they try to pour down everyone's throats. Its a feeble attempt at trying to increase their non-existent legitimacy. I counted at least 5 glaringly subjective/confounding variables while taking the damned thing.

the fact that i had to spend a week just getting my typing speed up for the test is incredibly stupid.

The sad part about the CASPER is that it's probably going to be a new metric that many schools in the coming years will use to dwindle number of apps--a new check mark box if you will. More money to spend in this costly and time consuming process.

This is literally the first time I've ever heard of it. It sounds like an interesting concept.

And you will never know how you did on it. BECAUSE THEY DONT GIVE YOU THE RESULTS.

May have to get used to it, in Canada a lot of health professional schools are adopting Casper and even i believe canadian residencies are planning on implementing casper in the future...

University of Ottawa medicine admissions began using casper last year so yea...

I did the browser check/test twice and also updated my browser. Everything worked fine during the system check but when the actual exam started, there were glitches throughout the entire thing.

"Describe a situation in which you felt overwhelmed, how did you handle that situation?" Trying to study for questions like that doesn't make much sense. You'd make better use of your time working on your typing speed.

And Rutgers RWJMS, although it's optional.
"optional"

the alternative is writing 5 different essays on professional competencies lol...

and then their interview is MMI. i dont really get the purspose of MMI + Caspter it but if RWJMS asked me to jump through a fire hoop i would do it

Lol thats exactly how I studied for it. I took an online mock test, realized that they loovveed asking example-based questions, then made a mental note of 3 examples for every common "difficult scenario" question. Worked me wonders on the real thing- I didnt waste any time thinking about answers and had all the time to concentrate on my typing (again, why is this even tested).

You can easily prep for their video based Q's too. If you work on developing your own "approach" to open-ended scenarios, it can really save you time on the real deal. More time = more chances to express yourself = (potentially) a higher score.

Ah yes but you dont know your strategy worked because the parrot assigning grades randomly chose Martin Luther King vs Ted bundy on the scale.

Lol CASPer is such garbage. Bad acting, slow video loading and technical problems, etc. It's more of a typing test than anything. Horrible metric of someone's character or personality.

Mcmaster University which is in Ontario, was the first to create MMI for medical school entrance, and then they were the very first school to use Casper along with MMI interviews and they've been doing it for a very long time. Its to measure basically how people think on their feet and how they display their character in difficult and ethically stimulating scenarios!

do you not see the redundancy of having both?

im pretty sure the only reason they do both is to see if there is any correlation between the two so that they can gauge if casper is a good measure of anything at all

I've don't question it lol, its a system in place by a school to determine future docs! Im just giving ppl perspective 🙂

every time I see the word casper my brain jumps to cell bio

I had a great experience with the test, myself. But I wish I got my results. I'd like to know how the grading scale for this works.

having taken the test and then eventually accepted to a school that required the test, i will say with decent confidence that the test isn't about doing really well, but more of just screening out those who do exceedingly poor.

Yeah that makes sense. I mean, it's like a lot of those ethical MMI scenarios. Just be a good person lol.

I didn't have any technical issues tho with the computer or the scheduling, etc. My only issue with it is the lack of showing us our results, and also the fact that it costs the applicant money to pay for it to sent to individual schools on top of the test cost. That's ridiculous IMO

So basically, the Mcmaster adcomm is that guy from Hunger Games who's responsible for coming up with new sadistic tests / scenarios

This.

Like it or not, Medicine is moving to mastery of competencies, not merely picking the people with the highest grades or the most pubs.

The technical problems are concerning.
