So a lot of my secondaries ask what I'm most proud of outside of the classroom. If I'm completely honest, I'm most proud of having a successful long distance relationship for the past four years. Would it be a huge turnoff for adcoms if I wrote about that. Or could I make it work if I talk about the maturity and communication skills, etc. that I've developed through the relationship?

That's your biggest accomplishment?

I'm currently an incoming sophomore in college. I've done the long distance relationship with my boyfriend for all 3 years of it (he'll be a senior in college). Of course, I'm extremely proud of this considering I was 16 when we first started dating. It's helped me mature a lot, and I've learned how to balance work/relationship and not be around/talk to somebody I love all the time. By wording it like that, I think it would represent how I would deal with life as a doctor. Yet at the same time, I wouldn't dare write about a relationship in an application.

Just wanted to say that I appreciate that as being a definite accomplishment. Having a relationship from a distance is tough. I don't feel like I can speak for adcoms, but it seems like if it's honest and you can talk genuinely about what you've learned from it, it seems like that could be a good option.

The result might vary from person to person. Some might think it's immature that this would be your biggest accomplishment, some might think it's very mature that you can manage your time and be committed.

One thing to think about is how relatable this experience is. Not many people have been through long term long distance relationships.
