Hello all this is my first post here. I been reading everyone elses personal journey and what not. I decided I should post my own feel free to give me advice. For those who do not want to read everything scroll to the end for stats.

First off I am now a senior at a state college ranked 60-70. I started off my freshmen semester with a terrible 2.0 GPA. I knew college was going to be different than Highschool where I did just the minimum to get by. I graduated H.S with a 3.5 though. Goes without saying I had terrible study habits. Old habits can be broken but its not easy, and I believe I have finally changed my ways. What I have learned on these forums is not everyone makes it first time around, some not even second time around, but if you really do believe in yourself and bust your butt you can achieve your dreams. I have had some family issues through out my freshmen to sophomore year. I currently have a 3.0 cGPA and 2.7 sGPA.
Last semester I averaged a 3.5 gpa 18 credits and I plan to get nothing below a 3.5 for my next 4 semesters and same amount of workload. I have not completed my dental prereqs I have yet to take Organic Chemistry and Physics, and their respect labs.

**I am going to graduate in 5 years with a Bio Degree and boost my bGPA and sGPA

** I have not yet shadowed or did any volunteer work because I have had a part time job since I was 18. I am however now going to be shadowing a Dentist near my college this year for the next 2 years.

I hope to update this thread in the near future with any updates I have. I am determined to be a Dentist. Time is not an issue.

------------------------
sGPA 2.7 oGPA 3.0 35 credits till graduation left (postponing gradutation by 2 semesters)

Current plan: Finish 4 year college degree by May 2014 Graduate with sGPA 2.9-3.1 oGPA 3.1-3.3

Postpone graduation and take 2 years worth of upper-level bio classes (4-5 classes each semester, non plant/environemental), have 3.9+ GPA each semester, then ace the DAT (20+ across the boards), all while increasing your volunteer and shadowing hours to 100+ each. Throw in some research and you'll probably have a decent chance then if you follow this. You may consider PM'ing sacapuntas.

👍👍

And this will be cheaper than most postbacs or masters, unless you go to a super expensive private undergrad.

Tuition is $14,000 a year for me. Do you guys think I should change my entire schedule towards all science classes and my major to Biology? I have currently 90 credits. Going into Senior Year Fall semester

Thank you for this advice, I will pm shortly, was he in a similar situation as me?

If that is the better option for you, then yes change your major. There's no need to be ashamed if you graduate later than expected.

Somewhat.

It's not so much shame as it is trying to get away from the current environment. But saving money I guess should be more important to me. I will just tone out the noise. I appreciate your input/help and everyone elses as well those who as pm'ed me / replied to my thread
