So at PCOM - Philly, we all got our stethoscopes a few Fridays ago. It is pretty sweet that we get these scopes along with our names on these things. One thing, though. I'm a guy and I just so happened to get the purple/mauve one. I'm a little deflated b/c I was thinking that I would end up with that slick black one, but alas, the purple was peering out of the box.

It's cool. I'll just be the dude strolling campus with the purple/mauve stethoscope!

paint some yellow stripes on it and tell people you're a big LSU fan...im not sure thats much better though. Out of curiosity, did you guys get Littmann Cardio 3's? We got WA Harvey Elites down here at the GA campus.

Yippeee purple👍

Ours from VCOM were maroon. I still have it hanging on my shelf but I ended up buying a L cardio III which works much better.

Enjoy your purple one!!

What up Bob? I don't know why they chose purple this year in such large quantities.

Wear it proud haha. Good luck on Head and Neck next Friday. I've got my hands full with GI right now.

We had a choice of colors, since everyone gets black, I got forest green...its pimp.

Its ok that you got purple, no one will think anything of it...🙄

Have no fear...you will learn quickly that a sethoscope is an obsolete medical device.

Dude, I have a purple one as well. I'm at LECOM at POMA had donated Littman III's of various color.

I like FREE so who cares what color it is. I think the length issue is greater i had a roomate who was 6'5 and he got the shortest length one. It was a bit more difficult to do physicals.

We are still talking about stephoscopes, right? If not I feel sorry for your friend

Free??!! I'd probably be fine with ORANGE if I got it for free! (Although mauve makes me think of peptol bismol....)

Don't worry - My physician friends have assured me that even engraved, you'll misplace it or have someone steal it in the hospital at some point - which is why they suggested not wasting a ton of money on one... Free...nice. 😎

POMA severely upsets me, and I plan to never be a member of the organization.

1) I got shafted with a plum colored stethoscope as well, honestly why order bizarre colors in such big numbers.

2)Our whitecoats that they are so GENEROUSLY buying us, don't at all come with our names on them... honestly, I could have just went out and bought a regular whitecoat and had it embroidered.

3)When POMA had their 'stethoscope' ceremony at our school. It was disproportionate to the class. only 10 or so kids were picked and 90% of them were NOT caucasian... although in our class i'd say about 5% of the total kids are not caucasion... those numbers just don't add up.

4) When POMA came and talked to us. The lady was a terrible public speaker who seemed a bit dated in the way she talked. She was a terrible representation of not only osteopathic medicine. but of the organization itself.

I plan to remove the POMA patch from the whitecoat that they give me. I just think it's a poor organization, especially in a state which holds one of the highest numbers of DO's

So you're angry at an organization that gave you a $130+ stethoscope for free because the color wasn't to your liking? You're angry at an organization that gave you a free white coat because it wasn't each personalized with embroidered names? You're angry at the organization because the ceremony did not go the way you had envisioned it.

If you're that angry at the organization, you can always return the stethoscope that you obviously hate and the white coat to POMA. That's probably a stronger statement than posting your discontent about the organization on SDN and vowing never to join the organization.

duuuude. I freaking love my plum stethoscope. 😉 I picked it out and special ordered it online since they didn't offer that color when everyone was buying equipment at my school. I am one of two in my class who has that color, and yes, I feel special 😀

in the end, does it matter at all? hell no, but it's something that makes me smile when there is nothing else to smile about, sooo why not? 👍 and free...dang, you can't beat that.

I hear you suck at disc golf...

:zip:

no. honestly i've kept my stethoscope. if i really hated it i could have ebayed it and bought a different one. and everyone made such a 'big deal' about the white coats. just to learn its not personalized.... we all had to choose and sign for our size and pick it up on a specified date based on your name... really felt like they were embroidered.
