Hey you guys, I'm close to graduation, but I'm not confident in applying to med school just yet, mostly because I have too little EC's. So I was thinking of this course of action and I would like to run it with you guys.

Basically, after graduation, I do some post-bac work and get 2 minors: 1 in Spanish, the other in Biochem. This should take me a year to accomplish, and that way I can have time to work as well as volunteer in EC activities. Also I could re-take some of the science courses that I didn't do so well in, and the course load won't be so much of a strain on me.

do you guys think that it's a good idea to take the time off to accomplish these tasks? Any and all responses are appreciated.

What is your GPA? You should only do a post-bac if you think you can significantly increase your GPA. Otherwise you'll be wasting over 10,000.00 bucks for naught.

Current GPA is 2.95, I've gotten a lot of C's thoughout my schooling, but I was planning on getting 2 minors with this post-bac route.

Waiting to apply until your application is the best it can be is always a good idea.

What are your plans for ECs?

I'm going to be volunteering at Loma Linda Univ. hospital 1) it's the school that I'm aiming for and 2) I don't have much else for EC's, other than research.

😱 Damn, maybe you should consider changing your plans. Matriculation into most allopathic medical schools is going to be a near impossibility unless you can bring your GPA up to a 3.5 (and get over 30 on the MCAT). Maybe you should consider DO schools. Instead of taking the average, they will take the replacement grade. That will certainly reduce the time and the costs of your endeavor.
