My Pre-Health committee does not require a non-science letter of recommendation.

So they tell me that I could only submit 5 letters. 4 are required. The first 2 must be from my university faculty and they recommend both of those to be basic science professors (bio, chem, phys).

Given that some medical schools appear to want non-science faculty, but do accept a committee letter (which includes the LORs), can that exempt me from non-science professors?

I have not developed a strong relationship with non-science professors and I fear that such a letter may hurt my application, but is it still necessary if I have that committee letter.

1) Yes.

2) No, it's not necessary to have a nonscience letter if you have that committee letter which didn't require one.

If you can get a non science LOR, sure go for it. Otherwise 99% of med schools wont bat an eye at your having just gone through the pre health committee. Pre health committee LOR are almost always preferred by adcoms.

Committee letters override individual school letter requirements. As long as you have the committee letter, you are fine.
